How about 2013 Metteberger? That was his breakout year. Why would you use 2012 as a reference? That would be like comparing someone to 2004 Jamarcus Russell. ( His redshirt freshman year)

And AGAIN, finished the game 17 for 24, 198 yards and 2 TD. Without playing in 3 of our offensive drives. He threw a pick on the last play having to make something out of nothing.

And in one of those drives he didn't play, we scored a touchdown.

Etling played fine against Troy

WE SCORED ZERO POINTS IN THE FIRST HALF VS A SUN BELT TEAM. We had 61 passing yards. We couldn't covert a third down/4th down by passing the football 3 separate times in Troy territory. That is not "fine" no matter how much you want it to be.

Mett threw for more yards vs Bama the first time he played them (241 yards) than Danny Etling did combined in two games (229). Mett then threw for 298 against them the next year. In 8 quarters vs Bama, Mett led offense scored 27 points

In 4 quarters vs Bama Harris led offense scored 16 points

In 4 quarters vs Bama, Jennings led offense scored 13 points.

In 8 quarters vs Bama, Etling led offense scored 10 points

Etling, in my opinion, is a victim of the Miles-O transition

No. Every QB from now till forever will be the victim of JJ vs. JL. In the years before that, there wasn’t the same fervor for the next-big-thing-who-will-lead-us-to-the-promised-land backup QB’s as there has been since (with only one exception: 2013 Mett).

The OP started with some meaningless stat comparisons that did not correlate to SOS and W/L records/Rankings.

The goal is not stats. If that were the case 2013 Mett would have won more games than 2012 Mett. The goal is winning the most games. Mett did that WITHOUT Cameron.

LSU started 2012 ranked #3 and stayed in the Top 10 for the whole season, going 10-2 regular season and finishing #9, 1 spot outside the BCS.

It was the last year that they stayed in the Top 10 for the whole season. The 2 regular season losses were to 2 top 10 SEC teams by a combined 10 pts.

Mett transferred here from Butler where he threw for 2,678 yards passing yards with 32 touchdowns and four interceptions. He led Butler to an 11–1 record and the JUCO National Championship game.

Etling transferred here after failing at Purdue, going 2-10 over 2 years.

If Mett could not get it done as a Pocket Passer before the SEC and FBS Offensive Revolution, it should be no surprise that the same Offensive Identity is producing worse results.

Fans rooting for what is best for LSU need to evaluate Etling by comparing him to the Current Championship SEC, FBS QBs. Its Coaching/DTQBS/Offensive Identity -If you don't have TEMPO/SPREAD/RPO = a DTQB who can Hurt you with his arm and legs like Jalen and Nick Fitzgerald, it is going to be more of the same. LSU is continually under-performing their Roster Talent by 10-20 Rankings. That is what gets Coaches fired.

Etling had 2 yrs at Purdue - Failed Miserably. He had 1 RS transfer year here plus 2 playing years. The I formation of Miles was modified to protect Etling and not put him in 3rd and forever like Harris.

Hurts started his first year and has gone 23-1 "Under 3 different OCs".

Ettling will likely never ever lose you the game. But, it is equally unlikely that he can go out there and win it for you on his own. The Bama game is the perfect summation of his limitations.

I don't dislike the guy by any stretch of the imagination. He squeezes every ounce of talent out of himself that he can and plays hurt a lot. He's tough and gritty.

We knew what we were and weren't going to get out of him and he's played perfectly to those expectations.

Etling has had 4 offensive coordinators, 4 offenses to learn and 3 head coaches in 5 years.

We have been doing the same thing for the last 5 years basically. hand the ball off a bunch of times, throw deep balls, and roll outs off play action to the TE/FB/WR, that's it.

I still have no idea why most LSU fans think Mett was some kind of great QB. The dude was just above average at best. His passing stats were still middle of the pack in the sec his 2013 season. And he was not tough in the least bit. Give me Matt Flynn 07, J. Russell 06, Rohan Davey 01, or Matt Mauck 03 over Mett any day.

I wish I could put Danny's attitude and heart in Metts body. And also throw in OBJ and Landry as receivers while at it.

You're so full of shite. Please explain in detail how finishing first in the SEC in yards per attempt at 10.4 is middle of the pack. Is second in qb rating at 171.4 middle of the pack? What about 3rd in passing yards with 3,072? Is 3rd place in the middle of the numbers 1 thru 14? What about 4th in completion percentage at 64.9? What about 5th in touchdowns with 22? LINK

That's called getting dunked on

22 scholarship players were missing. Includimg a Heisman candidate on defense. Not many coaches would have had their team 1 tackle away from playing for a conference championship in that same situation.

You're OC you just hired was diagnosed with Parkinson's as well and you had to make the oline coach the oc on the fly.
