2008 LSU Alabama. I wasnt heard the stadium when the Fg got blocked from blocks away

Bama gets the ball on its own 28 with 1:34 left in the game and no timeouts. McCarron had completed only 10 of 22 attempts for only 93 yards passing up to that point.
had a gut feeling AJ would get hot that last drive

Miles had already attempted several risky plays during the game, including a fake field goal and an onside kick.
forgot about these plus going for it on 4th down, and none of them worked in lsu's favor
lsu's last possession after Yeldon's TD run was straight arse water

Les didn’t trust his team. We were better than them that day and Les blew it, thought he needed the gimmicks.
And that screen pass to Yeldon was being set up all drive. Chavis blitzed Micah Eugene off the offensive left side every play and never got close to the QB.

To this day, I still say this was the most devastating loss in LSU history.
You win this game and you probably stop the Saban Dynasty from reaching the absolute heights it ultimately did.
But maybe the whole timing of Les to O gets thrown off and we never experience 2019.
I literally dropped to my knees when yeldon caught the screen.

The result was awful, but the decisions were sound.
Totally disagree.
While the possession before Yeldon's TD started with an incomplete pass, Mettenberger was red hot. After the incompletion he hit Landry for 13, Hill for 7, and Beckham for 32. That was on the heels of the prior drive where Mett completed a pass for 36. That drive ended with Les taking Mett and telegraphing a QB sneak with Ware on 4th and 1 that Alabama stopped.
The risk, (giving Alabama a TO) was not outweighed by the potential reward, getting a first down and essentially ending the game. The reason is because a made FG still keeps it a one score game. If Mett had been struggling I'd say let the defense try to close it out. But he wasn't. Yes, Les had taken multiple chances during that game. But in the end he didn't trust his QB to make one final play despite the QB carrying LSU the entire second half.
IMO, that was the biggest fail of Les's career. He wins that game it is likely LSU goes to the NC game where it would have been the favorite over an outmanned ND team. LSU wins that one and the gap between the two programs may not have increased so quickly
