every one of these players had their worst season as a tiger while wearing number 7. Its not even debatable.

I mean Delpit had a worse year than his year prior but he did win the Thorpe and was a consensus All-American. Chase opted out so we didn't get to see him. And Stevens was put in a different role and asked to do different things than his year prior. Stingley played like 3 games because he got hurt. And Kashon I think we all can agree his issues started prior to him receiving the number. He had a big season, got cocky, went looking for a bag, dangled an Alabama transfer over our heads, then just shut down mentally on the field.

Players have injuries, down years, etc all the time. The number has nothing to do with it. It's just that for the fans this number is one they focus on. But the number tradition isn't for the fans.

Delpit won the Thorpe because he should have won it the year before and no one had a spectacular year as a DB. He also went from a consensus top 10ish pick to a 2nd rounder.

Oh right, its just a coincidence that good players get this number and underpersorm or don't perform at all 7 years in a row.

The program from this past weekend lists PP as the initial #7, not Highsmith.

2011, Hiney Badger had one of the greatest defensive season in the history of the sport.
"removed from team" should be next to 2012 instead.
Oh you are thinking about the season the "Hiney" Badger was wearing #14, thank you for making my point

The negative sentiment towards the #7 tradition, generally speaking, is off-base.

It would organically end up in a play makers hands because most skill guys wear single digits. It lost its luster with pushing Giles to be that guy and then got fumbled through Covid.
