1st LSU football season without my mom
Me and my mom always chatted LSU football during season and off-season and watched every away game together. With football season being so close the reality of her not being here is making this football season shapping up to be a tough one for me. Any suggestion on getting through the season after losing someone who loves LSU football so much is gone.

I lost my dad on halloween 2018. He loved football. I will watch every game as if he was by my side. It's something we shared. I feel the pain of not seeing him during the season, but since its something we shared, now I look at it as a special time to live in the memories of what we shared over time. I know how he would react to every good or bad call or play. So it's just a time to keep the memories alive. That may sound silly, but i'm looking forward to it.

Keep talking to her. On your morning commute or your afternoon drive home tell her all of the the things that have happened. Treat it like she’s out of the country and you are her only source of information.

When my grandfather died I wrote letters to him. They’re still around here somewhere but it helped me a lot to keep that communication “open” for a few months afterwards.

re: 1st LSU football season without my mom
I lost my dad before the season in 2015. Every season since is very difficult for me.

I'm from here, born and raised. My parents are transplants from Pennsylvania but lived here for the last almost 50 years.

My dad grew to love LSU. After going to his first game, he was hooked. Only thing he loved more was us, the family. We ended up getting season tickets, we were at every home game and a least one away game if possible.

Now it's very difficult still, for me. My suggestion, or suggestions are the memories. Not saying that makes it easier, but at times it does make me smile knowing what we talked about and what happened at this game and so forth.

I have my own little things that I do personally to make it easier for me. Knowing that he's there with me at the games, is one. I don't question that for a second.

Your mom is right there with you too, wherever you watch the games from.

It stays difficult, some days are just unbearable. It comes in waves.

But be reassured knowing that your mom is right there and you can bet she's watching the game with you.

Prayers to you, my friend.

My heart goes out to all of you for your losses. I love your words of encouragement and sharing with us the ways in which you keep those loved ones in your hearts. The OP will greatly benefit from this, as will I.

Hang in there, buddy. Along with the others in this thread. Everyone needs some reassurance and compassion from time to time.

Great post birdman.

My dad died on the day of the 99 Super Bowl and every football season is tough since he passed. We always talked football and tried our best to watch as many games together as we could.

Living on the West Coast my entire life, we didn't get to see many LSU games since college football wasn't covered back then the way it is now days. We did go to the 84 game in Los Angeles and that was really enjoyable.

It's heartbreaking to me that the two of us didn't get to enjoy the 2003 and 2007 National Championships together and both of us being California Angels fans, their 2002 World Series Championship.

We did get to enjoy the baseball teams National Championships together though. those were good times.

My dad passed in August of 2018. Thought about him the entirety of every game last season. I felt like I could hear his voice, knowing how he'd react to each play. Watching last season with my brother was a difficult but special experience in that I felt a strong presence during the games. If on occasion I didn't watch with my dad, we spoke before, during and after every game. His thoughts/opinions on the matter were always more important than anyone else's to me...so it feels like the whole LSU fandom experience will never be quite the same. That hit me hardest after the Auburn game, all I wanted to do was talk to him about the win. After the Georgia beatdown, I left TS and drove straight to his grave, still just a patch of dirt then, wanting to feel as close to him as I could.

I'm sorry for y'all losses and I wish I had some good advice to give OP, all I could do is share my personal experience. Dabayoubama said it, live in the sweet memories of what you and your mom shared over LSU football. If you can, watch the games with loved ones. To commemorate my dad, I'll be watching the games with my brother and close friends so that we can continue bonding over our shared love of LSU.

He's right there with you, buddy.

When I walked out of the Georgia game last year, I was walking back to my car and I looked up and just smiled. I know you saw that, dad! How about them Tigers!

It's things like that that help me. I doesn't get easier but at times, you can find solace knowing your loved on is right there with you. I have no doubt of that.

Me too dude, are we brothers?

my mom just died of cancer on 6/24 and it fricking sucks, she loved LSU football. Keep wanting to call her everyday. She wasn’t one of those women who didn’t know what was going on. I was on the swim team 20 years ago and they came to all of the meets and football games....Only thing that gives me comfort is that she is out of pain but the last time I talked to her... I asked her if we would beat Alabama this year and she said yes.... so I’ll be in Tuscaloosa this year to hopefully fulfill that prophecy

This is the way it was with me and my Dad. He and I used to listen to the games on the radio when I was a kid because the games weren't televised then. I miss that.

While I know I could never take her place, I'll talk LSU football with you if you need that.

You're lucky that your mom liked LSU.

My mom hates LSU (Ole Miss fan from way back - hates LSU since Archie days).

Runs the school down all the time. Disappointed my son is going there.

Real pill, let me tell you.

I lost my dad when I was 14, back in 1966. Right on the cusp of football season. He loved LSU football. From our backyard you could hear the crowd roar at tiger stadium. We would listen to John Ferguson on the radio and he would diagram the plays for my brother and I.
I still think if him every game and how he’d love all the TV games.
From my tradition:
Those now departed have entered into life eternal. They still live on earth through the acts of goodness they performed and in the hearts of those who cherish their memory. May their lives be to us as a loving benediction.

Enjoy every future season with her.

Put a small picture of your Mom in your car. That's what I did after my Mom passed away 4 years ago.I talk to her everyday like she's with me.It's comforting.
