Killing a little time during the game last night I looked at the 86 team schedule in the media guide.

The 86 team was actually 46-9 during the regular season. So why is everyone making a big deal about the win last night. The 2013 team still needs another win to set the record unless I'm missing something.

Another interesting note. The 86 team played 7 games in the SEC tourney 2 against UGA, 4 against Bama and 1 against Florida St. Going 4-3. What up with the Florida St game?

That frickin team

ETA: Quote on the Florida State game; "For some reason back then, they just decided that LSU was going to play Florida State and put the game on ESPN. They flew us to Tallahassee in a prop-plane. It was the worst storm ever and I am surprised that we even made it."-Mike Papajohn

This is the school record for wins since the NCAA instituted a 56 game schedule in 1992. Before that teams could schedule as many games as they wanted.

What's up with the ridiculous number of games? What's up with 3 losses?

The SEC obviously didn't have their shite together.

I bet Alabama had an easy football schedule in 1986....

The ole "Baseball on Boardwalk" game at somebody's spring training facilty in Orlando. One of the few college baseball games shown on tv.

Also, Joey Belle dropped some bombs in Omaha that year.

I like it.

They may have but we won the SEC Championship that year in football.

LSU Media Guide has the following:

SEC Tournament - In Baton Rouge, LA

5/9 - UGA W 10-6
5/10 Bama W 10-7
5/11 UGA W 8-4

5/17 Bama L 1-5
5/17 Bama W 4-2
5/18 Bama L 2-8
5/19 at Florida St L 4-6

Over 2 weekends seems odd. Maybe the SEC tourney was the first weekend and then impromtu games were played the week between the SEC tourney and the NCAA regional.

That's probably what it is.

Miami had a good, side-arm releiver. Belle hit one off of him, that either hit the large scoreboard in left-center field, or cleared it. But I remember Belle's body language on that swing. He loaded up, crushed the pitch, then after completing his follow threw slung the bat back down towards the ground with two hands and immediately started his homerun trot.

Since football was brought up. 1986 LSU sports were SEC Champs in football and went to the Sugar Bowl, Final Four team in basketball, and were SEC Champs and went to Omaha in baseball. I'm gonna assume that we won at least some kind of national title in track and field that year as well.
