Kelly wasn’t a bad choice at the time.

The PROBLEM is how long the contract is and for HOW MUCH $.

Tired of reading, “wHo WoULd yoU hiRe”

Yes he was. He was a mind boggling desperate hire.

What has he done at Notre Dame? Easy schedule but never did anything of value.

He was a horrible hire

Was the winningest coach at the time. Take a look around all the head coaches that are hired. They're hired because they win.

$10MM per year isnt a problem. 10 years is. If this was a 5 or 6 year contract, Kelly would be on the hot seat going in o next year. As it stands, he’s likely here for at least 2 more seasons regardless of record. We better hope he can make the playoff next year.

Nuss needs to come back and learn how to read defenses better. He absolutely needs to do that in order to make better decisions with the ball.

I’m fine giving him a lot of money; just don’t make it 10 years. 5 would’ve been much more acceptable. Thank you Jimmy Sexton.

It is Woodward’s fault. He was the AD at Texas A&M when he gave Jimbo his 10 year guaranteed contract. Lol we should have hired Lane Kiffin.

I believe you'll see longer and guaranteed contracts become more the norm for proven coaches because they understand the challenges of today's game combined with the impatience of fanbases and programs.

He was a “big fish”. That’s all anyone was talking about at the time. We had to impress the Alabamas of the world with how high a profile coach we could pull. That isn’t where our focus should be in 2 years or so.

Who do ya'll think you could get on a 5 year deal?

Cegnetti at Indiana got a 6 year deal, has one good season and gets an 8 year extension.

5 year contracts are not a reality.

A higher price for a shorter term. I’m sure a balance can be struck.

It's not even $100mm/years being the problem. Hanny did lay it all out.

You can be fired for doing horrible and being paid the remainder of your contract. Universities shoulder all the responsibility if the hire goes bad. If a coach wants to leave, they don't pay a damn thing. You're banking on your coaches getting caught red handed in 4k doing something awful in order to fire them without pay.

Money is money whether in the form of a buyout or higher salary per season.
