Sure looks like LSU is at the same level as it was when Miles inherited it.

I really wish you'd stop making these stupid threads.

Tiger fans watch the games, they don't need you to inform them of the latest developments.

Quit your trolling.

You don't like Miles, we get it.

You're right, he inherited a program that just lost to Iowa in a bowl game.

So it's okay for people to keep posting what a great level miles has brought LSU to, but pointing out he had three top 5 finishes after taking over the team and then having only 1 in his next 6 shows he's not maintaining it like many claim.

Simply pointing out reality. Les is a decent coach and both extremes on this need to realize that he's both overrated and underrated.

LSU lost the Citrus bowl when Miles took over! He brought LSU back to Atlanta in less than a year.

ESPN recruiting class rankings:
2014 Alabama #1, Fla State #3 (so far)
2013 Alabama #1, Fla State #9
2012 Alabama #1, Fla State #2
2011 Alabama #2, Fla State #1
2010 Alabama #3, Fla State #6

Do you still think it is coaching?

Is Miles not responsible for recruiting? Also, coaching is definitely a big factor.

yes it is a big factor for coaches and players like Stanford that are in top 5 without #1 recruiting class and no, recruiting has nothing to do with coaching. Miles already lost 3 games when he lost his talented players to NFL.

What is your point? There are plenty of teams that have talent that never did anything because of poor coaching i.e. USC, Texas, Auburn...

Refer to my post above and tell me one team who has had better recruiting in the last 5 years than those 2 teams. College football is 95% recruiting, just as simple as that. Texas and USC are nowhere near those two teams in recruiting and in the years that they were they did well and won NCs.

Go back a few years and look at the class rankings for USC from about 08-10 and tell me what those teams won. Coaching is very important, you just discounted a good example in support of this point in Stanford. If you just look at a larger sample than this year you'll see that ND, Oregon, Stanford, and Ok St have all made or come very close to making National Championship games without having several elite classes in a row. 95% is just silly, I would say more like 60-70%. Just look at LSU, our offensive coaching was terrible and prevented us from winning numerous games from 08-12.

Recruiting is definitely a major reason that teams like Bama and FSU are where they are this season. It's also the reason LSU went 13-1 in 2011 with LSU's 2009 recruiting class a huge part of that season.

The advantage those teams (Bama and FSU) have had isn't a lack of attrition, but the fact that they continued to put up top 10 and specifically top 3-6 classes to account for the annual losses.

LSU's recruiting simply hasn't been even close to that level. It's averaged 8th and only had 1 top 5 class in the last 6 years.

That's been one of the major issues at LSU. Their coaching is great with great talent and slightly average to mediocre when they don't have great talent.

In the end, Les isn't keeping up with Bama because his recruiting isn't good enough to account for the coaching talent differences. He's a good coach, but not as good as LSU needs to stay an elite program.

Coaching is critical, no matter what people think. Talent can definitely hide poor coaching, but championships are more often than not won with great coaching and no where is it more evident than Auburn this season where coaching is helping lift a team with less depth and talent to play some pretty darn solid ball and the huge difference between their 2010 and 2012 team.

Please answer this and I don't think anyone on this board can give a realistic answer that is an improvement. Who do you want to coach?

Honestly, it would depend on a lot of things, but I'd definitely take a guy like Charlie Strong or Franklin. Their potential is through the roof and both have now established themselves. Art Briles is a hot name and with the right staff could be a great fit. Sarkisian is another, but not sure if you'd get him off the West coast.
