LSU purposely played badly in the first 2.5 quarters so that they would not show their gameplans to Alabama and Texas coming up.

Because it’s a highly emotional game and atmosphere. I’m sure Kiffin would have rather a few more points in the first half but sometimes you gotta just ride the wave
