Is having weaker backups a byproduct of NIL? I'm neither pro nor anti-NIL, but I imagine most of the best players don't want to sit and wait to play in a backup roll, and you can't afford to pay backups what you can pay starters. The days where you had a Matt Flynn learning the offense and waiting his turn season after season are gone. Today, he'd be motivated to go wherever pays the most and allows him to start.
