great post, DAD. stars arent everything, but if i had my pick, we'd get the top guys at every position and take our chances with 20 5 star guys.

He went to fricking Findlay (OH) so I don't think he was much.

He played WR in HS.

And you would hit about 50/50.......

I've got recruiting books back from the early 90's. I've seen it all. I'll have a few books at the Bash to back up what I post.

LSU's first round pick for this years NFL draft, was a 3* or 4* player at OT. That guy, Tyson Jackson. He'll get drafted as a DE.

Another guy that will be drafted was listed as a LB coming out of high school. He'll get drafted as a FB. Les recruited him out of High School as a FB. The former LSU coach said he would do better at LB.

Oh, both these kids are out of the same high school..

Recruiting Guru's never miss on a player.......

When he signed with Florida out of high school, renowned recruiting analyst Max Emfinger said, "Emmitt Smith is a lugger, not a runner. He's not fast. He can't get around the corner. When he falls flat on his face, remember where you heard it first."

matt forte, leading rusher and receiver for the bears as a rookie was a 2 star with only ONE scholarship offer. the recruiting services are fairly accurate for what they are, but it's crazy how off they can be sometimes

Apparently D1A coaching staffs aren't much better because he only had one offer.

A buddy of mine is a college coach, I asked him about Ciron Black before he got to LSU. He told me that the kid would be playing on Sundays. Maybe he was lucky on his guess?

I made the statement on Barksdale at the bash after watching film on him....."I'd move him to OT, DT we got!"

the post you quoted acknowledged the fact that he only had one offer and another one later in the thread said that the schools missed on him just as badly. try actually reading the thread before commenting next time BRAH

recruiting services and the ability of recruits to market themselves as a product today are light years ahead of what they were the 8 years ago or so when Holmes came out.

This increases the visability of the players and allows the cream to rise to the top somewhat more easily...

They still miss on a bunch.
Class of 2004 LSU signed 2 OC, Miller a 4* and Helms a 3*. Who played more?

The first LSU player that will be taken in this years NFL draft was a 2* on scout, as an OL. He'll get drafted as a DE.

Want more?

of course they miss a bunch, and a bunch of 5 stars turn out to be crap.

If it were that easy, college football wouldnt be nearly as enjoyable.

Great point! I suggest you only sign 3 stars from now on to help your chances of finding another Santonio Holmes.

Star ratings aren't 100% representative of an athletes impact potential.

But it sure as hell is representative of the odds of that potential.

YES SIR, MAY I HAVE ANOTHER.

Seriously, it would be an interesting review to put some perspective on the day.

Variables like coaching, intelligence to learn more complicated schemes, body changes, team mates who bring out "something" in another player, the system a team uses, etc, etc, etc.

The "why" this one advanced in their development, while that one stagnated or topped out, makes for interesting conversation.

the entire purpose of those sites is to rank players based on potential

The big word here is potential. More kids are signed because of this....
