Why does it feel like the last minute flips never happen the other way?

I’m sure they have many times. I’m sure we have flipped 5 stars at the very last minute from schools guys have been committed to for a year.

I know there are rumors of a highly ranked DB flipping to us from another SEC school (Bama).

But it certainly feels like we are always getting 5 and 4 star guys flipped on the last 2-3 days of recruiting and it rarely goes the opposite way. Strange phenomenon.

I think it’s easier to remember the losses. But maybe we do have more last-minute big losses than wins.

Texas just had 2 people decommit and go elsewhere.

They weren't 5*s, but a 4* and 3*.

Phillips was already committed them before we drove his price up. Lol.

We've had some, but those don't stick in your crawl like the ones we lost.

We Merry Flipmas on this board all the time.

McKinley decommitted from aTm on Dec 31st and is playing like the next great LSU DT.

Yeah we did flip Reliford, Davis, McKinley, and Perk from ATM last minute. Jamal Adams was a last minute flip from what I recall as well. However, OP has a point in that it seems to be the other way around more often than not.

Two reasons:

1) We don't have many boosters that are capable or willing to drop giant bags at the drop of a hat on a recruit. This was an issue even before "NIL" came about.

2) Our staff and by extension, our insiders, are notoriously over-confident. This has been an issue spanning several coaches. How many years has 247 and others pumped sunshine until the flip happens at the 11th hour?
