Why are scholarships still given to those with massive NIL deals?

Along with this 10 million dollars, please accept this free tuition, room and board. Give that to some math whiz who may actually like the university and donate back to it in the future.

Now that rosters will be 105, who cares.

I agree. They should at least make it to where if they are getting over "X" amount per year in NIL that they pay for their own school and expenses.

Inmates running the prison yet too many people don't see it.

Supply & demand. Every school you're competing with for a kid is still offering those benefits AND still paying them big $$$. Sincwe we know that, why would we ever consider taking them away?
The market has shown you time and time again, these elite prospects are worth WAY more than their scholarships (which of course have some value). There's no reason to be in denial about that.
ETA: FTR I'm not happy about it either, we're losing so much of the essence of the sport we love. It is what it is

Because that’s not how life works. If you had 2 job offers for $250k but one offered full health insurance and benefits and one didn’t, would your accept the offer from the one that’s offers no benefits?

For some athletes, NIL deals are huge, but they still rely on scholarships to cover everything else, like tuition and living expenses. Plus, it could help the school build its reputation and attract future talent, which benefits everyone in the long run.

In life, companies don't offer you the corner office, free lunches in the company cafeteria, and professional skills training PLUS one million dollars to play on the company's softball team and then never really expect you to come into the office or do any of the work. Just show up for those softball games.

Nope. SEC set it at 85.

Because someone who isn't getting .assive NIL money can have that players scholarship.

No.... apparently life works by a kid getting paid a ton of money to play a game.
Recruiting terminology needs a change. Using the term "Committed" needs to be changed to "My Intention".

85 scholarships. 105 is the roster limit. 20 walk on. And it's only for 2025 as of now. They are awaiting the official ruling. It's temporary as of now. Essentially don't want 20 kids per roster being robbed of their scholarship in 26 If the resolution fails. Not that it matters in the portal era. Yet to be seen if it will be leveraged against SEC schools by schools that can offer a scholarship plus NIL. My guess they will try but it won't matter. Those 20 kids aren't going to be differencemakers. Much like the current 20 walkons each school has.

Um, use the NIL money, you know like anyone else who has to work for a living.
I don't get a scholarship to cover living expenses, I gotta use my earned money.
All the free stuff(compensation) wasn't enough so make them pay their way.
