You realize that Christine Michael wasn't from Louisiana, right?

Oh, it was definitely not a good decision, but the out of state argument doesn't apply.

I mean...really? You do realize we'll have 5 scholarship WRs next year right?
Toliver
Randle
Tolliver
Taylor
Williams
D. Peterson is going to be split out wide some too I think. He's to athletic not to. You're also forgetting Shepard who is going to see alot of time lined up out wide. And the receivers who will sign with us this year. You're looking at 8-10 scholarship players who line up at WR. 8 or so full time WRs (2-deep at each spot).
Seems okay to me.
1) TT
2) Randle
3) Shepard/C. Tolliver/Taylor

Hindsight is 20/20. At the time, the staff thought Molton was better. They were wrong. It happens.
Actually there's no way to judge that accurately IMO. Molton would have been in the 4-man rotation this year as a RSF and that's pretty good. Damn shame about his unjury. Hope he tears it up at Tech.

BUBBA: Texas not signing drew bress was not a recruiting mistake. the guy didnt play his whole senior year in HS. torn ACL. Purdue was the only school period to make him an offer. the mistake texas made was telling chris sims he would play as a freshman. that killed us.

OK but he is still a TE, not a #3 WR.

Not really. I mean, he COULD move to WR. He COULD become our #3 WR. But shouldn't we wait to see if that actually happens before proclaiming him our #3 receiver.
Anyways...how many catches did he have this year? Three? Now how many rushes did he have? Yeah...Shep ain't a receiver...not yet anyways.

As of right now....receiver. And see the thread about Hunter looking around.

Yeah...OK assuming TT stays, Shep becomes a WR, and Tolliver and Taylor can actually hang in SEC competition (not proven yet).
If any of those three things doesn't happen, this is NOT OK.

Byrd is worse. Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming he would be a star or anything; but he is an LSU fan at heart and was always better than Molton. Hahnville just didn't throw the ball that much.
I speak w laron pretty often, and as a person and player he would be an asset to any organization/school.

Benton is a beast, just not the brightest, so it's taken him longer than most to adjust to Malzahn's system. He'll do big things next year.
By the time he finally learns the system, Malzahn will be leaving for a HC job. Then Benton will have to start learning a new system. Oh man.

Shep has been split out wide pretty often as a true freshman. He'll be on the field at either RB or WR, and it's alot easier to get him on the field at WR. We'll take 2 or 3 WRs this recruiting class. Just because we have one now.. means nothing. Our WRs will be fine next year.
OL is what worries me. WR is an easy transition.

That doesn't make him a receiver. THe ability to catch the ball makes you a receiver.

Again, if he can't catch the ball, this won't help much.

You seem awfully optimistic considering we just lost Davis, Reed went to Auburn, Hunter is looking around, Fobbs is sticking with A&M, and Wright is more than interested in Texas Tech.
Heck we could end up signing none of these guys. I don't think that would happen, but its not beyond the realm of possibility.

Why? We return three starters. One replacement will be an upgrade (Hurst) and the other shows a tremendous amount of potential (Faulk).
At WR, we literally have five guys, plus an undersized TE and an athlete who has caught like 3 passes ever.

Recruiting is not an exact science. I think most people would have selected Molton over Byrd at the time.
Hindsight is 20/20. It was hardly an egregious mistake.

He's caught a few passes hasn't he? I can't remember any drops off the top of my head. He looks natural doing it and it's obvious he has the physical ability. The rest comes down to coaching.

WRs aren't hard to find really.

Being a member here for like 5 years will do that to a person

Why do people think TT would leave early? Lafell is considered the best WR on the team by the scouts and he isn't even a for sure 1st round pick. The WR class looks incredibly deep this year. TT could fall out of the first day if he left ealry. That is just stupid as people would have to assume the passing game will drastically improve with a veteran QB.
Having a stud and potential stud as a 1-2 punch is very solid WR. That is basically what we had this year going in. We had no idea what Randle was going to be as a freshman.

Who cares? Those blood-suckers will argue all year about what's in an empty box if you let 'em.
Add me to the list that strongly agrees with you guys, though we do have a want to keep a balance by getting the top players in other states. My fellow TAF folks will, as well, but sometimes to a fault...).

Wasn't Molton Jefferson's favorite WR in h. school? Not saying he's as good as Byrd, but WRs being that familiar with their QB is a bonus.
