relative to these DT transfers, who in the crap would come in from the portal and start over Smith/Wingo? Of course they aren't starters(at LSU)! IF Smith is healthy, we may very well have the DT tandem in the SEC next year! Perspective gentlemen!

Yeah, I mean , nobody will start at dt for us out of the portal. We will need guys to step up at end though.

You don’t play the same guys every down in the sec anyway

Shand...maybe but with his size and apparent versatility, I think him/Lee are DT's.

No, I’m not sure you do..

You see in a 3-3-5.. you need somebody to eat up blocks. Wingo and Smith would be wasted at the 0. They would have to play out of position.

That will be Guillory.

Guillory isn’t starter quality. The staff doesn’t trust him him one iota.. in the SEC championship game.. they exhausted Roy and Wingo to the point of collapsing so they wouldn’t have to put Guillory in the game.

Do you realize he was healthy all season but only had two tackles the entire year? He didn’t even play enough snaps to qualify for a PFF grade.

I'm glad we got these guys, for needed depth, but when people say "not a starter" I think it's pretty clear that they mean "not starter material", meaning these aren't guys you would want getting that type of playing time, no matter who else is in front of them.

Now, I don't know enough about these dudes to say if that's really true, but they've all been in college long enough to have gotten some significant experience, and yet haven't really produced much, statistically. But at least they aren't freshmen, with zero experience, and perhaps the coaches see something they can work with from a talent standpoint.

I believe he will start at nose next season. That's certainly arguable based on past performance. The point of my OP was that people that I assume will play DT are sort of being downplayed as "non-starters" at DTfrom a talent perspective, especially Lee. I was just making the point that anyone we bring in to play DT will be "non-starters" on our roster next year. That doesn't diminish their value however.

You're right...That's what they are saying. That's my point. I doubt any Outland trophy hopefuls are gonna transfer to LSU this year on the chance they can unseat an All-SEC DT and an All-World talent that, if healthy, could be the most disruptive DT in the country. IMO, these are the "depth guys" we had to get and we need while working to add young HS talent to keep us elite at those positions. We seem to have fallen short in that regard this cycle. There's always that and the portal again next cycle.

Riske literally could start tomorrow at the nose. He was one of the best 0’s in college football last year.

LSU offered and missed. Do you know how many DTs we missed on this year? All. Of. Them.

I’ve maintained that LSU needs to do what Georgia, Bama, OSU, Texas, Texas AM, etc do and hire a DT coach.

Get rid of Polian. He’s dead weight.

The fact that we are in such bad of shape at the position that we are taking Florida rejects is a bad spot. A school like LSU shouldn’t be this desperate for “depth.”

Okay, so DT is spoken for. That leaves 2 of the 3 remaining down-lineman spots—the same amount as was open before all the transfers.

Edit: the people who INSTANTLY downvote factual statements like this geek me out. You guys are so insecure about this team that you literally can’t handle an objective statement?

Wingo played 90% of the snaps. The Georgia and Bama starters play 60%.
We already have experience with no depth against the good teams.

Yo have to have an effective at least two deep rotation

I think they mean they weren’t starters or significant contributors in the PAC 12.
But we need depth and they fit the bill. Hopefully they can provide quality depth with some experience.
It was a down year in LA for HS DT, we had to get what we could from the portal.

Could you contain your melt to just one website please. It would be nice to log in to at least one board and not see you bleeding out of your pussy all over it.

I understood your point that we aren't necessarily going to attract stars at the position, but defensive linemen can play in rotations where there are multiple guys getting starter reps at the same position. And I think people were hoping to get some guys who had a chance to be more impactful to that end, given how we struggled with lack of depth on the D-line this year. I mean, we got Wingo, who was coming off an All-SEC freshman year, despite the fact we had Smith and Roy as starters.
