Hell my nephew has drank protein shakes before bed and in the morning every day since he was 10. It's a different culture here when it comes to football.

For sure. I grew up in Winnsboro and was amazed at how many good football players come from West Monroe. Shows was all LSU, and we need it to get back that way again. I know this kid would jump at an opportunity to come to LSU and drill fools on special teams.

this is the type of talent that Aranda would have at Wisconsin. He might see something in him

Exactly what I'm thinking. He fits the mold of those Wisky LBs. Chris Orr was a 2*. I looked up Joe Schobert. He didn't have any stars. He was listed as a RB and Rivals says he signed with North Dakota. He was a Bednarik finalist in 2015.

Aranda would be the perfect DC for him. If anyone could maximize his potential, it's Aranda.

I think he just wanted to justify his comment and was a little sore about the reaction to it but in fairness to him, I had a friend on the WM team when I was in school and he said that PED use was pretty widespread there, he had no axe to grind he was just telling me, whereas playing HS football in Shreveport i literally didn't know one guy that used it or how or where a person would get them if they wanted it....separate point, I think after a 2-3 years in the program Aranda could probably use this kid.

The article has him at 240 but the highlight video has him at 255. What's a better weight for him? Did he just bulk up for the DE position or is he the type of guy that fights to keep his weight down? How's his speed?

I don't doubt that's the case. Educate me, I'm only 32 but I see firsthand certain schools still holding kids back. Did they used to double hold back or something?

These are the only highlights I can find on him (sophomore year). You can obviously see he doesn't have that elite speed. Yes he fits the stereotype. He's super aggressive and can lay some licks. But if there's anyone who can get the best out of him, it's Dave Aranda.

The rule is you can't be 19 before 9/1 of your senior year. There were holdbacks and double holdbacks back in the day. Holdbacks occurred when you were in 8th grade, so another year to develop and weight train. Holdbacks still occur, but at a much lower rate. Also you have to holdback in 5th grade at the latest now. So 1 more year to develop, but not in a school sanctioned weight program.

Due to the move, you've seen less "tapped out" talent entering college. That being said, OCS held more people back than WM, but you never heard their name come up. Tommy Banks and Andrew Whitworth both held back at OCS. 8+ was the program. It only became a problem when WM started winning.

That reflects what I'm seeing. Thanks. Lots of elementary aged holdbacks down here.

Seems like sometimes college coaches prefer the younger guys who aren't done growing. Sometimes they want the finished product.

like JJ said, it used to be a lot of kids were held back once, or even twice, putting them at 19yrs old as HS SRs.

now there is a cut off age of 18. Obviously hold back can still be done depending on how young you start them in school, but it is not as prominent. John Curtis used to hold back just about everyone, whether they were elite athletes or not.

Also, I don't believe that Garnett is a holdback. He was on my nephew's pitching machine team that's 7-8 year olds. Garnett's obviously a senior and nephew is a sophomore.

I know what you're saying, but I'm not sure we strive to play like TCU's defense
This year was an oddity at one point in time TCU had 8 defensive starters out with injury. Patterson usually fields stud defense's.

Yep, years ago Evangel had the "8-plus" program and regardless of academics, a student could be held back to grow a year. Once the LHSAA addressed it, parents starting holding kids back in 2nd grade instead of the 8th.

Seriously. What an absurd thing to bring up in a thread about a preferred walk on.
