When I finally signed up for an account, I told myself I'd never make an OP, since everyone seems to get lambasted, but here I go...

Is it just me, or is LSU struggling royally to sign commits from its literal backyard. There are three 4* athletes coming out of U High and all of them are committed elsewhere, namely Clemson, A&M, and Georgia. I recall many from the past not going to LSU as well. Dylan Moses most recently (although he finished at IMG) and Tim Williams come to mind. I guess I should count my blessings that this year's U High recruits aren't going to Alabama?

To me, it just seems that the guys coming out of LSU's lab should be locks. Do they just want a change of scenery or something?

Dylan Moses is the only one who could have committed that chose to go elsewhere.

Tim Williams was turned down by the staff when he tried to commit to LSU.

We aren't really recruiting any of the seniors on their team right now.

But we have a commitment from one of the players we are recruiting.

So, basically, it's just you.

He’d be a project at best in our system. Too small and inexperienced to play LB for us, not what we’re looking for at DB or WR. Good kid, wish him luck at A&M. But we’re still trying to find a spot for Jacoby Stevens who was a 5 star. What waste this kids time?

How are we recruiting Devonta Lee? as OLB? I knew that Harris was a tweener when it came to position

I grew up a mile away from U-High and had a bunch of friends go to U-High.

I chose not to go to LSU because I wanted to experience something new outside of Baton Rouge.

I think we're telling him he can play whatever the frick he wants right now.

And yes, eventually he'll be an OLB and be an awesome talent at that spot.

I was going to call this out and say you were full of shite but when I saw you posted it I questioned myself because you seem to know a decent amount about recruiting. That said, why in the hell would LSU have not taken his commitment? I don't remember this at all.

The OP is right, 2 reasons to answer your question:
1. Miles was HC and Chavis was DC. Chavis ran a 4-3 with 235-265lb DEs, like Mingo, Montgomery, Hunter, etc. And Tim was a 210lb OLB, and not only that, he was a 1 trick pony. Nothing but an edge rusher, couldn’t drop into coverage. He did not fit our system.
2. He was a pain in the arse of a kid. You had to light a fire unde his arse every single down. I have a very good friend who coached him in HS at Glen Oaks before he moved to U High who told me this. Miles style was not to lights fires under asses, Miles recruited talent and let them compete at practice and he put the best out on the field. Whereas Saban is slave driver so Tim Williams was a perfect fit for him and worked out well there.
Hope that answered your question.

It's hard to know the complete truth, but the word on the street about Tim Williams was that the LSU coaches didn't like him very much, schematically or based on his personality/off-the-field behavior. How much of that is reality versus defensiveness about a recruit spurning his hometown school is up for debate, but it was definitely a thing that was said on this board by reliable posters.

And it was not said at all about Dylan Moses, Cam Robinson, Landon Collins, or Devonta Smith.

It was said about Shyheim Carter, Eddie Lacy, and Darrington Sentimore. (ETA: in their cases, it was about off the field stuff and not scheme).

Those character issues with Tim Williams manifested themselves at Alabama. For better or worse, th ends justify the means at Alabama and he wallowed to remain on the team, maybe got a one game suspension here and there against rent a win opponnents.

LSU under Miles seemed to take abroader view with regard to the ultimate well being of the players beyond winning and losing, the Tyrann Mathieu dismissal being the most prominent example. Maybe in 2012 if the Honey Badger had been in the game instead of freshman Jalen Mills the game winning screen pass to T J Yeldon is stuffed and LSU holds on to win.

That seems to be changing to some extent based on a recent report the drug policy is being changed, apparently to be more in line with the more tolerant policies of their major opponents.

People thinking that UHigh being on campus at LSU Helps LSU in recruiting are wrong in my opinion. Some of these guys just want to get away. It is a help to LSU in that they get easy access to know them and they should know more about each player on and off the field than any other school in the country, but as far as getting those guys to commit it is probably more of a negative than a positive.
