Yeah, he's a heck of a soccer player, so I guess it makes sense he would be able to boot a football. His comment last Spring when football practice started was that he was looking forward to being able to hit people without getting a yellow card, so as long as he gets to keep playing defense, he hasn't minded adding kicking duties.

not bad at all for the 3rd smallest 3A school in the state.

Thanks for the kind comments about Jake. He is a lost dog right now not being able to play. Don't forget to mention 270 lb little brother Sam.

For sure the number of times it sounds like the opponents pads are being cracked in half are down without Jake headhunting out there.

And Sam has really been plugging up the middle-really notice it on the Hudl replays shot from the end zone. He and Bowser and the other DT's (Bruiser when he's in) aren't leaving much space inside, and pushing the runner outside plays right into our speed.

It's teams like this that make me proud to be a 4yr Uhigh letterman. They've risen to heights we could have only dreamed of when I was in school (no offense to lorio Williams or Shoptaugh) these group of cubs are the real deal!

e! Win or lose, they'd give any of these so-called powerhouses a damn good game! If the senario would every come up, I don't think a bunch of these elite teams would even accept the game for fear of having to explain how a little "3A school from Baton Rouge" beat their asses

WM, Karr, SA, JC and ECA were the last schools to fill out their schedules and I know they did contact a few 3a schools about playing in hence JC playing Curtis and SA in regular season.

I agree the U is loaded and has a great chance to do well this season. Chad has them clicking already. To see that type of execution in game one against a very quality opponent was awesome.

The only thing questionable in your post is using John Curtis and the term so-called powerhouse in the same sentence. If anyone, anywhere, is a legitimate, top tier, powerhouse, its Curtis.

High probability that U High will get their shot at JC and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

He plays on the DL at certain times because that's what the team needs in that particular situation. He's been used on the DL since he started playing because of his size, but it's not his preference. He's an OT/OG. That where his heart and skill is. He makes no pretense that he's a skilled DT.

Jake Wharton is a beast, on the baseball diamond and gridiron, and his dad was too! Great family!

I've never seen him play baseball but I've heard he is the real deal! I've watched him on the football field, and IMO he is the best LB we have! I hated to hear he wouldn't be able to play this year, but he played hurt most of last season. I watched him knock fire from a RB, get up in obvious pain with his arm dangling at his side, line up on defense and knock the RBs arse off again! A warrior! Toughness is a trait you don't see in many players today, and old farts like me can appreciate that! I can't stand to see a player boost up a minor injury like he's dying! I didn't play football, but I played basketball back before they softened it up and started playing by WNBA rules. I've played with loose teeth (courtesy of a few elbows), bruised ribs (from knees while taking charges), and I've had all of my fingers either broken or dislocated from dunking and jamming them on the ball. And I slapped in a mouthpiece or taped the fingers together and kept playing!!! Oh, and I forgot to mention the Wharton kid can run the ball too!
