bourgeouis was a great pitcher. it may be an age thing with him. i thought it was 2 years no matter what level.
then, i have no answer to you why he didn't get drafted. however, i have talked to pro scouts directly about watkins.
it was at a baseball tournament in west monroe. a couple of guys came to see the barbe kid. they mentioned watkins name without me asking any questions about it. at the time he was just talking about pure speed....bases, outfield. they had a lot to say about leamhieu and mitchell as well. thought both would be 1st rounders.

the rule is you can go pro out of HS, or any year of JUCO, but if you go to a 4 year out of HS you must wait 3 years (unless you turn 21 within 45 days of the draft).
It wasn't an age thing for Bourgeois because he isn't 26 like someone else suggested, if he were it would have been impossible for him to make all district at Lutcher in 2008.

My bad. I knew there were a couple that were 26 and I thought he was one of them. FWIW my neighbor plays for them and we went to a few of their games.

i knew he wasn't 26, but thought he might be a year on some kids in his class.
didn't know the JUCO standards.

This is correct, I played JUCO at Holmes Community College. Roy Oswalt was drafted his freshman and sophmore years

you talked to a scout about him in HS or in JUCO?

Not to rain on anyones parade with LSUE, but they play Division II JUCCO baseball. That is not to say they do not play good teams, just saying they don't play D I JUCCO which is the better division. I know, I played at a DII, the competition is good, but its not San Jacinto, Seminole, Neosho Cty, Galveston etc...
They do play some DI teams and they are a good club and have a great base of talent to choose from in the Acadiana area, they are a good scrappy bunch of kids and thats a reflection of their coach.

last season. watkins was at LSUE. meeting the scout was inadvertant, but we talked for a good 15 minutes. he was excited to see a lot of good high school talent in that monroe tourney. he was really impressed with watkins. anticipated that he would be an outstanding talent. compared him to rickey henderson!!!! obviously, if he were rickey henderson he would have been in the pros by now, but still a cool thought.

I played both years of t-ball and 1 year of coach pitch with him.
ETA: just to provide a few more details, i was the pitcher that did no pitching and he played first base back then.

there are divisions of JUCCO baseball, have been for a long time. there is also NAIA. which is a small college league. Each one has its own world series. Why would that be so hard to believe.
I played at a DII, and my best friend in highschool played at a DI. Don't have time to find a link, its just the way it is.

not saying anything about it. Just wanted a link. I played Juco ball in texas myself

But I played from 1994-96 and in NAIA that was several years ago. I am willing to admit that it might be changed, but there was a no doubt about DI and DII JUCO.
