Any decent LB options in the portal already we can look at following Tolan news?

Jordan Burch EDGE JR 6-5 275 South Carolina just entered.
We were a finalist for him.

Anyone know why Tolan decided to just up and transfer, I don't understand it. He was a promising looking LBer, him and Perkins looked to be quite a tandem.

Could be 100 things not the least of which is he's a teen ager.
Could be grades. Also could be grades in a more serious way affecting his future. Like the Harbor kid would go to Michigan if it was only about grades, who's to say Tolan isn't thinking along those same lines. Pure conjecture, by the way...
You wouldn't think PT is a factor but maybe he thinks he's farther behind Penn in his development than any fans do.
Maybe he wants to be closer to home. He's already recovered from what was formerly a football ending injury. Maybe that's a consideration.
Or maybe there is some "undefeated" in Orlando or thereabouts that he wants to be able to tap into (!) a little more often.
No telling.

Anthony Lucas entered the Portal yesterday as highest rated EDGE this cycle at On3 with a 93.
Anthony Lucas EDGE FR 6-5 285 Texas 8$4 Big ole kid for an edge.

Eta: The good part is he was a high 4 star 96 out of HS and played to the 4 star 93 Portal grade as a freshman. Noiiice catch if he comes on board.

JJ Weaver Kentucky EDGE reportedly expected to enter the portal as well. Would be a good Ojulari replacement. Explosive guy. 10 sacks in his 3 years at Kentucky. Had 6.5 in 2021 season.

Post from DRock88
I will go out on somewhat of a limb and say that I think Penn will be an animal next year. House is very good with LBs. Penn was also very green this season - he didn't play a whole lot last season. With another full off season under Flint and House, I think he could turn the corner.
I don't know about Weeks yet, but I wouldn't count him out. He was also very green this season.
With that said, getting Tolan back would help. But, I'd feel more comfortable (with or without Tolan) if we landed an experienced LB out of the portal for House to work with...even if it's not a splash, but a guy that the staff thinks they could get up to speed quickly.

The Portal is not overwhelming with fits for us right now.
The only ILB of note is from USC. Which means he's prolly a gelding. Tuasivi Nomura LB RS-JR 6-1 230 USC
He played in every game on defense and special teams. They also used him every game as a fullback/short yardage blocker. I don't see it but who knows.
Clayton Smith LB RS-FR 6-4 231 Oklahoma is the biggest upside guy and I can only guess that CJC knows him from Norman. He appears to be a solid candidate for Alignment but I read he plays outside.

What about this young man?

Nick Jackson UVA

excerpt:

"A three-time All-ACC selection, Jackson was the unquestioned leader of the UVA defense for the last three years, leading by word and most impressively by example. In 2022, Jackson finished with 104 tackles, 41 of them solo stops, seven tackles for loss, five sacks, four pass breakups, four quarterback hurries, and a fumble recovery."

Down side is he will be a one and done in all probability. Has led UVA in tackles for the last three years. 6-1 240 are his measurements per last year's depth chart. Jackson was the player that West Weeks was behind on the depth chart when he decided to transfer from UVA.

New today:
Josh Ellison DL Sr 6-3 300 Oklahoma
Played in every game with 4 starts. Looks like a block eater depth piece. CJC would know if he'd fit.

Right? I've had him on the list since the Dec 12, I believe.
Big time production. Makes me wonder if he's asking for too much in the bag. That's a long time in the Portal for this proven of a player.

Just noticed that each of the top transfers to FSU - Fiske DL, Byers OT, Cypress CB, and Bell TE - are already enrolled.
Good players with no delays getting acclimated to FSU's way of doing things because of grades.
Fuqqq.

---Gonna look for the status of our newbies now. Sheesh.

EDIT: I'm assuming a young man who enters the Portal can commit to play at another school while still attending his original school.
It occurred to me that while D.Smith and A.Gilbert remained in school to make grades so they could transfer, they hadn't announced where they intended to go while still in class.
IIRC a Junior College player can announce where he intends to go in season.
Somebody correct me if any of this is wrong, please.

At first glance looks like he plays inside and would be a definite have a look at for the Staff. Makes tackles and plays. Nudge Penn along at the very least. Could definitely start if he plays inside.
Nice spot, baw.

Players can announce where they are transferring whenever they want. There are no restrictions on verbal commitments.

Saw what I thought was a school issue clarified on another Board, Dobro Mane.
It was about grades - kinda/sorta. Young man is within a semester of graduating from Virginia. That is a prized accomplishment. That paper plays anywhere so knowing he's staying put for a semester is a perfect situation to take his time and let the football take care of itself.
The young man already has Alignment. I'd be jazzed to see him in P&G!
My guess is he's still being recruited hard by all the usual suspects. You gotta think Grad school will be important. Degree is in Marketing and LSU does offer a PhD in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. Not quite UVA but there aren't many that are.

Shite. USCe EDGE Gilber Edmond to FSU.
Did I mention I've developed a severe dislike for men on horses with spears - from either side of the country?

David Ugwoebgu LB Sr 6-4 250 Oklahoma
Another guy CJC (like LB Clayton Smith) would be familiar with, good or bad.
"Received honorable mention All-Big 12 accolades from league’s head coaches … has started all 12 games and ranks second on team with 101 total tackles … ranks fourth in Big 12 by averaging 8.4 tackles per game … has also totaled 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, a pass breakup, four QB hurries and a safety"
