From what I saw he's a physical and athletic forward. Maybe that's all he's got but I would think he would be a good energy guy helping on defense and getting rebounds

There's a ton of 6'8 slightly athletic bigger guys out there. I think Johnny just wanted a more polished player than Owens was, we have enough projects at the big man spots as it is. Owens seemed to routinely struggle to score in AAU play, most every boxscore I saw was him putting in maybe 2-3 points a game.

In his defense, tough to score or find shots (no need for it) when Blakeney and Simmons are on your team. Plus a few other shooters/scorers.

Gray has been just fine this year, at most he can cut back on a bout 1 more turnover a game. He's at 3.5 turnovers a game and if he can get that down to 2.5 he's already at almost 5 assists a game which is a 2:1 ratio.

Just curious, I really don't know this kind of thing, but wouldn't it be more likely for him to turn over the ball a bit more in conference play?

Competition will be better but that doesn't mean a player will automatically play worse.

You'd expect more time in practice and chemistry gained with teammates would outweight the better competition.

I think so as well. Especially for a JUCO guy that shouldn't hit the same wall a freshman would. And the learning curve isn't as steep, nor the game too fast, so he really could turn it on during conference play and it wouldn't surprise me at all.

So McVeigh is suppose to chose between LSU and Nebraska sometime this week and make an announcement. If we got McVeigh and Lyle, this class would be incredible. I like McVeigh's skillset.

I think the Aussie connection is to strong for him not to choose us

Sure hope so.
Is Blakenly a sure 1&Done? Just wondering what the team will look like in '16.
If Martin & or Mackey stay they'll surely leave next year along with Simmons & probably Blakenly. Hope we get a good player that'll stay for more than a year or keep recruiting top 10 classes. Either works for me.

First time is a typo

Mackey

Second time is a pattern

probably Blakenly

Third time is a problem

So...

Gray/Lyle/Quarterman/Patterson
Blakeney/Hornsby/Quarterman
Simmons/McVeigh/Bridgewater
Martin/Simmons/Epps
Mickey/Robinson

That would be legit, but it would be tough to keep all of those guys happy.

That would be the absolute best case scenario... Will be tough to keep Martin or Mickey, which would definitely mean we would play 3/4 guards at times. Luckily McVeigh and Epps are 6'8" guards... Simmons would likely have to play down low but he can stretch the floor well and would require opponents to move a post player away from the basket. We would need Robinson to really improve over the offseason.

This is my mindset as I've said in this thread. There's either an unknown center on the way or the staff really expects Elbert to be farther along.

He's needs to gains some weight and improve on defense and passing before he will really be ready for the nba so who knows he might stay 2 years. If he comes out and scores 15-20 a game (which is unlikely because of the other offensive talents on the team) then he would almost be for sure gone

Yea I was thinking at least one of those guys will stay. He and Quarterman would be a good backcourt in '16. Just hoping we have some guys left over so if '16 recruiting isn't as good as '15 we'll still be a tournament team.

I wouldn't have Mickey or Martin returning...

Robinson III - Malone
Simmons - Bridgewater
Quarterman - Lyle - Epps
Blakeney - Hornsby
Gray - Patterson

I could also see Hornsby start the 3 and Quarterman comes off the bench at the 1 or 2 like this year. Quarterman just provides that extra length.

I heavily doubt Hornsby is going to be benched for TQ. If he gets a starting role, it's at PG or wing.
