If there isn't a worthy prospect in east Texas or in the state of Louisiana, LSU is going to struggle to sign a rising recruit at signal caller.

It's been that way for 25 years, and it's just the way it is. So I'm not shocked when kids from northwest Florida and Maryland decide not to come to LSU.

LSU traditionally hasn't fared well with national QB recruits.

Not making excuses for Miles. This is the same coach who had RG3, Tyler Wilson and Jordan Jefferson at a camp and only offered JJ. His evaluation of the position is shitty, IMO.

Late 90s -- Rohan
Early 2000s -- Russell, got him b/c of Jimbo's connects
Then Rettig a few years back.

It just has always been difficult for LSU to sign top QB talent when they've had to recruit from far regions.

Oh, and Cameron is a God awful recruiter.

Agreed, but Cameron messed up not going after Shea.

He was a local guy that Cameron could have kept an eye on. All that was needed was a staff job for his brother. That was a mistake from day 1.

Instead, he chose Franks. An out of state kid who was the bigger project.

ETA: And I don't think Lowell is the answer for LSU. Miles has proven he needs a polished qb to make his system work.

People don't want to hear it. But LSU isn't Alabama. Better get the top signal caller from the state when you have the chance.

Shea wasn't staying regardless. They hated the O.

Glad you're not making an excuse because there is none.

Shut your whore mouth!

It's the kids that are the problem.

They don't have the vision like Cam has to want to play "1950's football" and "run one route all year."

When it comes to recruiting QBs this isn't totally true. QBs are typically locked up before NSD, and anyone that's left is probably already leaning somewhere with a team that already recruited them at this point.

I agree.
Shea was the cream of the crop we had to choose from.

If we get Narcisse all will be forgotten here

Wouldn't you consider these guys opposite though. Shea lived here no ties to LA though. Franks lives in Fla, but family ties to LA.

Ties to LA are strong. You see recruits, especially ones whose families left during Katrina, always take a hard look or sign with LSU.

Dak will be the first qb from LA drafted since Stefan lefors. Saban and Jimbo let him leave Baton Rouge.

I see that. But you offer his brother a spot on the staff and it guarantees you get Shea. You have leverage in that position. Shea doesn't come, you fire brother. Brother wants Shea to keep his job, becuase they're brothers, and because he is good.

That is what Ole Miss saw. It is a rare chance at a guaranteed, 5 star lock for a minimal cost.

It doesn't come along often that you can skirt the NCAA rules for the 2 or 3rd best qb in a recruiting class by just giving a brother an on field job.

Plus, if brother is on staff, Shea is easily watched and monitored. Brother would have unlimited communication with him.

It's just the smart decision for a school like LSU that needs a qb in the worst way. Schools like alabama and OSU can laugh at the family because they don't need him that bad. LSU needed a qb in this class and Shea was very low risk/reward.

Cameron got played by a young man with the old 'we're a military family' and 'i'm the closest thing to a lock' card.

This. LSU is going to take a Torrance Gibson type QB and put him in this type of offense????? LSU has shown since Jimbo left, that they cannot mold a QB they recruited out of high school, to perform well here. Doesn't matter about QB or OC. Even guys that came to us out of high school and later transferred elsewhere, have stunk it up.

We should have gotten La Tech's Tony Petersen when we had the chance. We let Cam twiddle his f**king thumbs and now we are up shite creek after Harris leaves. It's pretty much McMillan or a redshirt freshman/true sophomore taking the reigns in 2018.

I'd rather we run a simpler system where a guy like Jeff Driskel looks successful and puts up crazy numbers. Where some walk on at Iowa who was a 3rd string backup for 3 years, transfers and puts on a show in his only year playing at LA Tech and on the field in college football. Look what Dan Mullen did with a guy Miles initially wanted as a TE? Chad Kelly exploded at Ole Miss in one year with the team. Did y'all see how bad Mett struggled at LSU his first year starting and he was here the year prior as a backup?

Why do we run a pro style offense in a state like Louisiana LITTERED with spread/dual threat QBs? Why do we run a base 2 WR system and recruit 4 WRs a year???? It's time to go spread. It makes a shite ton of sense for the state we are in, for the region we are in (Texas QBs would want to come here as well), for the amount of offensive talent we produce. We can still run heavy out of it. Oklahoma has been doing it for years with Peterson, Murray, Perine, etc.

this board about JIIP when harris ("omg i saw brandon harris buying fireworks in a purple shirt!") and rettig (go back and take a look at those rettig threads) committed.

it is what it is. if our offense is humming along like it was in the mid 2000s, we might not be pulling the top guy or guys at the position but we'd be landing solid guys. it's also about guys developing (flynn, russell, RP) since jimbo left it just hasn't happened.
