I think elite players are the exception to the rule!! Catalon would make the back end elite next year! Giving the young guys time to grow

Arky 247 Article on Catalon to Portal

Excerpt from linked article:

"Catalon, who came to Arkansas as a four-star recruit in the Class of 2019, has been a key leader and impact player for the Razorback defense when healthy. But after a breakout season in 2020 that saw him earn Freshman All-American honors, Catalon has been limited to just seven games the last two seasons."

Undoubtedly a talent, he just cannot seem to stay on the field. This is a kick the tires and get a comprehensive physical exam before you jump sort of player. Makes zero sense to waste a scholarship on an oft-injured player, when you are counting on that player for production. Playing in only 7 games over two seasons is a huge red flag.

Most think Banks is going to be a stud for us if healthy next year!! Catalon is worth the flyer! It’s no more the risk than signing a 3 start with upside potential !! But the potential reward is huge.

I can’t see them using every available scholarship with more kids coming into the portal in the coming weeks

They will save a few spots, but they want as many guys as they can get for Spring ball now.

Also, we all know a few more guys will leave after Spring, opening up a few more spots to bring in a few more during that portal window.

If healthy? That is a big if healthy for both Banks and Catalon. And can or will they stay healthy for the entire season?

Banks has played in 3 games in two years and Catalon has played in 7. Not exactly reassuring if you are counting on them to be half of your starting secondary (no matter how many exclamation points you use).

bullshite.

First I assume you mean 3 star instead of 3 start.

Second, a kid who has developed into a proven commodity in college (who just happened to be rated a 3 star coming out of high school) is in no way riskier than an oft injured player. It is production that is being sought, not some inapplicable high school star rating.

Like I said, Catalon is a talent, when he is healthy. The problem lies in the fact that he cannot stay healthy.

Catalon tore his ACL his senior year of high school, ending his senior season in 2019.

2021 had his labrum repaired, ending his season.

2022 had to have his shoulder surgically reconstructed, ending his season. This is major surgery that is career threatening and a huge red flag.

This screams questions marks more than exclamation points.

Like Zy, I just couldn't find this dude at first.
Ranked #87 of DL at On3 with a 3 Star/81.50 grade from HS and no Transfer Grade/Stars.
Big nose guy along the lines of Lee. Block eater with some mobility. He'd be a take for me. Extensive P5 and Starter experience. Might be making things shaky for Guillory.

I think the tea leaves have revealed Alexander and Jefferson are likely in the number.

That makes 7/10 Kelly stated would be in.

Not sure who the other 3 might be.

LSU really needs a portal safety with experience and talent. Catalon would be big here if his injury/off the field stuff checks out.

He says 8-10 transfers during the transfer window... Doesn't this transfer window last a few more weeks?

Agreed on the Catalon but I'm holding out hope that it's gonna be a "jumps in the Portal and signs within a couple hours All Conference types that we've (obviously) heard nothing about" situation for us.
frick it - no pony for Christmas so I'll wish for something a little more realistic.

take somebody whose main impact would be in running down on kicks.
That's gonna be about 3 TE's, the Weeks brothers, and a couple of gunners (from DB's?) that can actually TACKLE somebody when they get there.

Hopefully Polian calls the “tackle the guy with the ball” more next year

That would be a big one. He’s an excellent replacement for Roy.

I would really really like to see a good transfer kicker. We need a guy with the ability to attempt 50 yard kicks.

Ramos was one of the few bright spots on special teams. I think he probably earned the opportunity to see if he can improve in year two. He certainly wasn’t a “negative” aspect of the team

Where are you guys getting 10 transfers announced today from? lol. If you think that's happening you're going to be disappointed. I'm pretty sure he meant 10 on the year as time goes on.

Catalon is a take if you can get him. I’m fairly certain he has two years of eligibility left, as long as he gets a medical for 22.

He’s a playmaker and it’s worth the roll of the dice on the health side
