well, most of the stuff in FNL was not real, but I got to watchi it up close. Marshall had beaten Odessa Permian early in the season and if they could have slipped by Carter, would have had a chance to beat them twice in a year. If ws in all thepapers that year when Permian flew all the way from West Texas to East Texas to play Marshall. In the book it gives the true account of the game and that Marshall won. Some great times, I was gettin Redshirted at Sam Houston that year becuase of shoulder surgery, so I got to catch a few regular season games and all the playoff games.

Marshall had started playing top teams from around the region, We played Lawton, OK my JR and SR year when Charles Thompson was the QB( went on to be the QB at OU and ws one of the reasons Switzer was brought down. Thompson was a stud. Marshall still plays Neville every year. Great series, I think it is like 5-5 the last 10 years ( Last year Marshall lsot at Neville in a driving rain storm 17-9, the field ws a mud pit. Should be another good game this year, Marshall is going to travel to Monroe again.

No they didn't. Ruston in 1990 was #2 in the USA Today final Poll and went undefeated.

Correct, I think this guy is thinking graduating year. It was Childress' retirement year, and after RHS made the mistake of not hiring a coaching combo from their own backyard, in Ruston resident Arlidge and Ruston alumn Shows.

I think you mean BM beat Ruston in 89 in triple overtime in the Semifinal game. I was in 8th grade at the time. Chad LaRose was the man back then. I don't remember the 7-6 game though of the top my head. It's been a long time.

Weaver, so you went the BM? What year did you graduate?

That makes too much sense considering this is a recruiting board and not a HS football board.

I disagree. My brother graduated in 89 and that was the game bm lost to ruston 7-6.

1990 Chad larose was a senior and that was the year we beat Ruston at Ruston in ot. I graduated in 1992.

Graduating in 89 doesn't mean he played in the '89 football season.

Last 3 State Champ games before 5A was created:

'88 Ruston 28 Shaw 14
'89 Ouachita 35 BM 7
'90 Ruston 52 Catholic 10

Sorry, but you're mistaken. 1990 Ruston was undefeated and beat the shite out of Catholic in the Dome. It was Chick Childress's final season.

the early decade Evangel teams had a slew of D-1 signees. Not just to small LA colleges either
