Yep. The closest comparisons are Tenn/Vandy and UGA/GT, only the former has mediocre in state talent while GT seems to offer a curriculum that allows higher-end athletes to avoid the tougher engineering courses. I doubt Northwestern offers a ton of easy course options to attract better athletes, but I may be wrong.

But the two states are much closer in terms of talent than most realize

cherry picking a couple of drafts proves nothing. Look at the totals in the league and also the # of D1 scholarship players.

They're in the same Conference and Northwestern is one of the finest schools in the nation. Not sure how they just don't count

I look at it like Ga Tech, UGA. These schools are not fighting for the same caliber of recruits. I don't know of all the kids that were drafted this year who are from the state of Illinois, but I highly doubt more than 2-3 could actually get into NW.

yes and it's extremely difficult not to have position holes some years. the best that can be done is anticipate the off years for certain positions and recruit like hell out of state.

LA had five players drafted. When people say anyone can come in here and win because of the talent, they are basing it off per capita. That doesn't tell the whole story.

In this case, in one cycle, Illinois had more NFL talent than LA. But LA has more per capita.

I just get tired of LSU fans who think a monkey can recruit and win at LSU.

When's the last time Louisiana wasn't loaded? 2012? We are 4 straight cycles with Louisiana having a deep class.
