I just watched the HBO 4 part episode “The Cost of Winning”. Refresh my memory on the Devon Clowney story. If all you know is the HBO version Clowney committed to LSU a year before signing date. He shut down recruitment and then LSU pulled its offer 1 week before signing date with no prior notice given to Clowney. What’s the real back story?

Demon* Clowney and the story was he wasn't as good as we thought and was processed.

We also had interest from other players at both his position and from other highly rated players and we were getting tight on numbers...

I think we thought we were going to land a monster 2020 class. Even better than the #4 National Ranking

So we had to make room.

He ended up singing with Ole Miss.

He was the 11th Ranked WDE, and #224 prospect overall in the 2020 class.

We signed Philip Webb and BJ Ojulari .... both higher ranked and better looking prospects than Clowney.

I’ll be interested to see what they do with Webb this year

Both him and sampah.

I think sampah will get snaps this year.

Webb is really a tweener. He just doesn't look natural at linebacker.

He’s in the process of beefing up to play on the edge as a DE. He got to campus weighing 225, needs to be 250 or so to hold up. Ojulari looks a lot bigger since last year when he had to play as an undersized DE.

That's probably the right move. In spring camp i think they still had him at linebacker.

I just hope he is explosive enough to play on the line.

Ojulari was even though he only weighed 230/235.

Ojulari is going to ball out this year.

I heard the issues that scared LSU away had to do with his character more than anything else.

Love Ojulari, think he’s gonna be a stud.

Somebody tell me if I’m wrong but I’ve heard Damone Clark has been working with the coaches in more of a pass rushing or specialized kind of role. He looked very indecisive last year but when he was moving in a straight line, he’s fast and physical. I remember him running down Toney from UF and Harris from SC. He also shucked some OL on pass rush situations. The dude has great makeup and a high ceiling and could be one to watch this year.

I'm pretty sure the story was that we were unable to get ahold of the kid for like months on end prior to his flip. That was the word on this board, at least--that it was seemingly a mutual drop. He was being sketchy as hell, not communicating with the staff, and we no longer thought he was that good. This was a guy that was well known to be out of the class WELL before signing day. If this doc says otherwise, it's full of shite.

I have a hard time feeling sorry for a player that gets processed and still lands a power 5 scholarship.

There are people screwed by the system, but he's not one of them.

Rumor was it wasn’t Clarke it was Pellini’s fault not having the backers in the right positions in the field, and that under our new DC Clarke is back to his sophomore form.

LSU had the title run and then we had a real shot at some monsters so unfortunately some kids were cut. We processed guys like Alec Bryant, Jalen Lee, Major Burns and Demon Clooney

Here’s the thing for the sensitive types- Saban has been doing this for decades.

It’s ugly but the cold hard truth is that you need monsters to win the sec and if you have a a chance you have to take it

"cutting" Louisiana prospects was a significant mistake. The Major Burns mistake was rectified as he has returned. Time will tell regarding Jalen Lee

You sign the best prospects you can. We’ve been burnt time and time again with kids flipping at the last moment.

This is a business. If you want to be liked, don’t be a leader, sell ice cream.
