2-3 commits from Texas top30. But the state is a focus for the in-states plus Ohio St, Oregon, etc., making it more difficult. But no commits from state top15, which isn’t normal. Very happy with the class, glad coaches able to pull elite talent from elsewhere. But any commentary on Texas recruiting is welcome…..

I'm so confused.

I think you're asking why HS kids in Texas are leaving the state but your title just makes me want a Snickers.

Texas is a big pie with a lot of hands in it. We don’t depend it on as much as a lot of others schools, though, which gives us an advantage.

The many hands in the pie is more of a problem for OU, Texas, A&M, not to mention Baylor, TTech, TCU, tOSU, Oregon, etc.

I think his question here is
why has LSU not picked any top 10 from texas this year?

i think we came pretty close to getting 1-2 top 10 WR ... NIL probably outbid LSU.
not sure who is the lead recruiter for texas now?
but trditionally LSU has done well in Houston area as well as bordering schools from Louisiana

I think you’re saying,

2-3 from top 30 is pretty good.
Would have like to have a top15 or two.

OSU, OU, oregon as well as Texas, Baylor and Aggie make it tough to pull these top15s.

Still happy with the total class but we had to get guys from other states where we relied on Texas more in the past.

Any thoughts on Texas HS recurring going forward for this year and the future?

I’m not sure what the 105 is going to do to Texas HS recruiting.

I see that OSU has made some damn fine in roads to the south from Florida to Texas.

NIL is still a bigger issue than most think. I don’t mind getting bag chasers if they are true difference makers.

Still want the majority of the La Top players first. Then Texas, Florida Georgia, Miss and Kelly to do this thing in the Midwest for Oline and TE.

Obviously you need to see that we’ve been doing fine. Took the best player from Michigan/country.

Would have loved to see this kind of class in 2022 to start paying off now but it doesn’t work that way all the time.

Yeah it's definitely the board who has the problem, and not your OP that has some random thoughts in your head typed out in incomplete sentences for us to try and decipher.

This "concern" is absolutely ludicrous. For one thing, it's not really even accurate. If you go by 247's rankings (which I used simply because they've been around for more years), we've signed one of the top 15 players in texas in 3 of our last 7 signing classes (one of which was perkins, who is from new orleans). In the other 4 classes, we had 0 of the top 15 from texas. Also, by the way, only 11 texas guys in the present class have a higher rating than Charles Ross (93). We've only signed multiple from texas's top 15 one time since the 2014 class and two times since 2009 (as far back as the rankings go).

And second: The staff seems to have settled on an overall recruiting strategy of being *very* deliberate about picking its out-of-state battles: Our out-of-state targets in this cycle have been, almost exclusively, either (a) the absolute cream-of-the-crop studs at the very top of the rankings, or (b) guys we feel we have a very strong likelihood of landing, for one reason or another. We can always find a solid in-state back-up plan who will get on board with minimal drama, so there's just no point in fighting a time- and effort-consuming, expensive, knock-down-drag-out fight against texas and miami and georgia and alabama and ohio state unless it's for a legit STUD. It's just not a good use of resources. Rather than spreading our recruiting resources around to, say, 10 4* guys and hoping to land 5 (just totally making up the numbers), we're dedicating them towards 5 5* guys and hoping to land 3, after which we'll fill the leftover 2 spots with 2 in-state kids, one of whom will probably jump from a 3* to a 4* by the time he gets to campus anyway. This means that there just aren't a ton of out-of-state targets for us generally.

And in any event, why don't we compare out-of-state recruiting generally to what it's been in the past?

For the current cycle, we have 4 out-of-state commits ranked in the top 50 nationally. That's tied with 2017--the class that won us the championship in 2019--for the most we've had since 2010. We've only had more than one 3x since 2010. This cycle is, literally, the best we've recruited out of state in recent memory.

If 7 years is up to 23 then that also includes Austin Deculus who says he is from Mamou even though he went to school in Texas. It seems a lot of the kids we get from Texas have Louisiana roots.

The 7 cycles to which I was referring were 24, 23, 22, 21, 20, 19, 18. But you're correct that I counted Deculus as a Texas kid for my 2017 tallies (though he wasn't in the top 50 overall, so he didn't factor into the second stat).

Might put Ross on the edge at lsu. Will have to see how he grows

Either way you have an elite guy once he gets better at diagnosing

I was invited with a college coach to watch Austin in the Spring before his senior season.

As to the Texas players, each year around 350 kids sign with colleges. Right now, LSU has around 14 kids on the roster. This is around the number we've had most years. Certain staffs that have more coaches that coached and played in Texas, do a better job in recruiting Texas.

As for the players we have verbals from, they are all highly recruited. Look at the offers they have. Kelly does a great job with player evaluation and player development.

Kelly seems to do a better job with the instate players, not having to hit the Texas area as hard. But too add, you have as much talent within a 100 mile radius of Houston, than in the entire state of Louisiana.
