the math doesn't seem to work though. There has been only one year when they signed under the limit. So back counting year to year can only go so far. It just doesn't make a lot of sense.

So by my counts they could only back count one season. Otherwise they've used their 25 limit.

Grey shirting in no way helps you with signing over 25 players. You still have to account for their scholarship out of the total 25 per year (eventually) unless you are allowed to just kick an unproductive scholarship player off the team and award that scholarship to your grey shirt (something no other team has been allowed to do as everyone else automatically loses the scholarship given to a player who is either kicked off the team or quits).

Even with all of this, it is mathematically impossible to sign over 25 for as many consecutive years that Bama has done so and remain under the actual scholarship limitations. My guess is they are finagling it and fudging paperwork and folks are just “looking the other way”

3 confidence. Honestly think it's any of the 3

Bama
UF
UGA

Kid keeps it close to the vest. Nobody confident.

That's the way that I understand the grey shirt rule also. I believe that what they are doing is convincing certain kids to "walk on". They are essentially lining kids that have no chance of playing their first year with super academic scholarships to cover all of their costs and then when they award them a football scholarship down the road they never count against the 25. This was the rumor about what they did with Paul Tyson.

Like the other poster said, they are probably claiming some of these as walk-ons, even though they recruited them. You would have to lie on the paperwork, but we know that nobody would question Bama on that stuff, and they do too. Meanwhile, some sort of deal is made behind the scenes to compensate these kids while they wait for the scholarship to open up.

The way to get a hold of this is greyshirts count towards the 25.

When do greyshirts finally count? At some point that guy has to count or he can’t practice. If every year is over the number, when does it catch up? Processing guys shouldn’t matter. That’s just the total number of schollys in a given year. If a guy counts toward a year limit it doesn’t matter that you later process him. He still counts.

The numbers don’t add up.

I mean a Grey shirt is just hey I count for next year and I sit out one year, right? All it should do is just lower your number for next year.

how do they get away with this?

So I wouldn't have thought of this had I not seen it with LSU baseball recently. I bet Saban gets some of these top prospects to come to Alabama not on full scholarship in the beginning. Probably says we have extra scholarships that free up every year due to graduation and the draft and you can get one of those.

Exactly. And someone else compensates them in the interim.

We can't even get to 23, why do we need to worry about signing over 25?

That is NOT why they go to Bama. Bama is paying them cash. Hundreds of thousands of dollars each for the producers.

Cracks me up that people downvote this. I know, you know, they know and the NCAA knows it yet Saban is untouchable. As long as his buddy Emmert is the President of the NCAA he ain't doing shite to Saban!

What is mind blowing is they have had what the #1 class for the last 12 years or so. Bear Bryant played by a different set of rules and we saw what Alabama was then and we seeing it now under Saban!

Georgia actually has the most talented roster in college football.

You mean they have the highest number of points produced by a for profit site. Anybody that watches football knows they don’t have the most talented roster

Eta thought I was on sec board

Georgia finishes top 5 recruiting recently with Bama, LSU, Clemson, and Ohio state. One of those is not like the other 4.
