He led the team in tackle for loss and QB hurries. He was better than Branch at times and it was his first year starting.

Very similar stats to Ali Gaye this past season, with three years left to play.

The staff must see something they like. His stats weren’t great this past year

He would have been 2nd on LSU’s team in TFL behind Perkins with 9.

LSU played 14 games.

He played in 12, started 10.

He's also a Sophomore so he can still develop. I'd say he was pretty productive and more productive at times than their high end recruit Branch who this board wants bad.

That's because they were targeting him last month. Things change. They got their 1st round pick DE to come back which may have impacted his decision.

Depends on what type of defense LSU runs. If you're a DB you going to flourish in a 4-2-5.

I think it's pretty obvious LSU wants to play that as their majority base. They recruited a ton of S in the HS recruiting class, they've got a lot of DBs in the portal, and same with DL. They've targeted 0 LBs.

4-2-5 is what they'll run and probably more dime sets. LB is not a priority for this staff. It's pretty obvious.

Certain schemes allow certain positions to flourish more so it's an easier sell. House seems to like to sometimes slide S down in the nickel spots too so I think they're going to get a S somewhere with experience. Can't just have 2 on the roster. I doubt Sage Ryan is a S he doesn't have the size to play the position.

That tells me more defections to the portal are being anticipated.

He is a nice player.

I read that he played almost 700 snaps last yr, so his pff grade went down.

In 2021 i think his pff grade was 72 or 73 which is really good.

I hope they add another de/edge on top of edmond.

Not for what LSU will probably run. Pretty obvious heavy 4-2-5 with all the DBs/lineman. LBs become less important. Bad thing about this is moving forward going to be hard for LSU to sell a big time LB to play in their system since they shine less. We will have attrition there in spring for sure. I would think guys like Langston are not going to make it into fall.

I’m not sure why a guy suited to OLB would be very interested unless they are like a hybrid Safety. But there’s still room for MLBs to make a lot of tackles in space and show off coverage skills in the middle of the field.

House also does some zone blitz exchanges, which gives the LBs of opportunities to get after the QB, even when we drop 7 in coverage.

Not if Justin Rogers wants in. He’s a take for sure.

There is zero reason why a linebacker wouldn't be interested in coming here.

Linebackers are crucial in a 4-2-5 defense. The only downside is there are only two starting spots, but that means you recruit less guys, not that the guys you have don't get to play.

Another strategy is to look for guys who have some positional versatility. Perkins is a great example, as he can play some snaps at Jack as well as playing inside. You can do the same with a Safety who plays big and is good against the run.

That's another thing I doubt they're in a hurry to recruit ILB because they're probably going to move Perkins to the inside.

I'm wondering if Tolan got wind of this and is a reason he hit portal.

True, but they need at least one more guy with some experience to add depth. They don’t need to put too much load on Weeks right out of the gate, as good as he looks and him being an EE.

I wouldn’t hate it if they sold Davis on moving down to play LB if he really wants to play defense. I would still want a vet in the rotation, but he’s got athleticism and can hit.

I'm gonna say that if Rogers gave us any indication he was coming you might not have seen Edmonds committing here.

But maybe not.

If you take Rogers that'll be 18 defensive linemen on scholarship, which would be utterly unprecedented for us.
