Steve Odland - ran Office Depot into the ground, sued by many states for overcharging. When Odland left he had to pay a million dollar fine for his dishonesty. ND must be proud.

If you don't think that a Notre Dame degree has more value than an LSU degree outside of Louisiana than you are borderline retarded. I LOVE LSU and have a bachelor's degree from there but am not insane enough to suggest an ND degree isn't better in the eyes of an employer. Notre Dame is a very prestigious degree to hold.
Maybe, but I work alongside Notre Dame and Vandy grads. They are fine, but they do not make more money than me, they do not work as hard as I do and they have not brought more prestige to my employer. So....? Frankly, the relative merits of a Notre Dame or Vandy degree depends on what he wants to major in. If he wants say music, petroleum engineering, pre-vet or theatre, LSU is better than either of those schools...by a pretty wide stretch. Well, music at ND might be close.

Folks,
I don't know who is posting all the evaluations of the value of an LSU education, but, I'd say they have little knowledge of the real world. They may be hoping that a Notre Dame degree gets them something for free---but here's a news flash---nothing is free---you have to earn it.
Me, my family and many friends are all LSU graduates and here's a short list of accomplishments:
(1) LSU B.S. + Harvard Law Degree
(2) LSU BS/MS/Ph.D--40 year Director of R&D at one of the largest food companies in the world.Played baseball at L.S.U.
(3) LSU B.S./M.D.
(4) LSU B.S./M.S./Ph.D.--42 year USDA research scientist--member of USDA Researcher's Hall of Fame.
(6) LSU B.S.---played on LSU golf team. Currently Director of Golf and Food Operations at a highly acclaimed golf and ski resort.
My only relative who attended Notre Dame:
(6) Notre Dame B.S.--working as salesman.
The only Notre Dame graduate I've met in my work life was an Engineer with a B.S. degree, who was terminated in a company down sizing. Not thought to be productive enough to retain.
On the subject of football---Gunner Kiel must be very happy that he made the correct football decision in choosing LSU. watching tonight's bowl game between Notre Dame and Florida State, it's a very poor game with no play makers anywhere on the field--for either team. Both these programs are so far inferior to LSU right now, I'm sure neither wants to play LSU for the foreseeable future. Neither is a top 20 team.
Geaux Tigers!

And as far as an ND or Vandy degree being more valuable than an LSU degree I offer you this:
30 year Football player ROI:
2. Notre Dame $1,575,183
5. Vanderbilt $1,028,732
28. LSU $628,705
CORRECTED. Per your link and GK being Caucasian
ND $1,510,227
Vanderbilt $1,052,656
LSU. $743,015

and pulling out only football schools and adjusting the GSR (Graduation Success Rate) to football players only (actually turns out to be more favorable for ND, LSU, and Vandy), you get this:

Washington State being 15th overall

Washington State being ranked ahead of UW

Not legit.
Washington State is 2nd fiddle to UW in pretty much everything. WSU is where all of the UW rejects go. The academics aren't even close to comparable.

All this argument by a few like CapitalCityTiger and the Irish folk on what a name school gets you may have been true in the days of the "good ole boy" network. But in todays mobile internet driven fast information society, it no longer has the influence it once had.
For example, I founded a technology company that I moved from BR to ATl, mainly for investor reasons, but I politically correctly talk about the talent level of engineers from Georgia Tech. But in reality, I hired a MIT Graduate degreed engineer who worked for Venture Labs at Gt and ran the MIT forum for the southeast and made him work for an Odessa Texas 2 year junior college engineer. His MIT degree meant nothing to me when I hired them both at the same time and means nothing to me now. However, I will say that when New York, and foreign investors come in, they speak to the MIT guy who knows about 10 times less than my Odessa TX junior college engineer. Its all perception...not reality unless I was a research institute or politically driven organization, which neither live in reality.

This is a pretty interesting thread, dumb as it may be. Having graduated from LSUNO, UNO now, I have learned a lot about my degree and my Masters, too, but that's from Nicholls. A degree is a ticket to get in. The more you pay, the higher the probability that you will enjoy the show. My son went to Hopkins and graduated in Mechanical Engineering. The people that work with him graduated from everywhere else. It's about you and your ability. As for the prestige of a degree, don't tell me that if you had a degree from MIT or Harvard versus the University of Nowhere you wouldn't be shouting it from the rooftops.
I did read some ugly things about Kiel and his choice. Much of it seemed like sour grapes. What I don't understand is this. If he's really a bum and wants to go to a school that plays football with the perceived quality of a pre-school education, why are the arrogant, pretentious ND fans so upset that he got away? Correct me if I am wrong, but you were recruiting HIM; he wasn't recruiting and begging YOU for a scholarship. If he had gone to ND, he would now be some kind of genius? Since his choice, he is now an intellectual cretin who wants to major in boredom? From the little I read about him, he seems like a stand up guy from a decent family.
AS for degrees and GPAs, I have learned this over the years. The A plus, 4.0 students go on to get a Ph. D. or on to med school or some such other hot shot choice. The solid B plus, 3.0 and above go on to a great career in business or law, and the C minus, 2.0 students own all the businesses where the A and B students work. Success is steeped in attitude more than aptitude. Success also has a component connected to an emotional intelligence and "The Big Five." These five factors are openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism.
This reflects the preconceived notions of North versus South as we re-live and re-fight the Civil War every day. North, super smart. South, the IQ of a brick or a rubber tree plant. Many a northerner went broke underestimating the quality of a southern brain. All in all, we come off stupid. Think Swamp People; however, I know some pretty bright people who live in Louisiana.

Yes. Notre Dame has some sore losers, or fans with bad attitudes. All schools have a few of these types of people.
These few ND fans can be some of the worst. I know Gunner and his family well. Gunner has graduated from Columbus East High School in Columbus, IN with a 3.85 to 3.9 out of 4.0 GPA. Gunner is an extremely sharp and bright young man. We have no worries about Gunner's education and intelligence. He spoke about his "getting use to school and football at LSU", as many of you heard in his radio interviews this week. This is not because he is worried about "failing in the classroom".... He personally expects a huge amount from himself in his academic success . What he wishes to accomplish is to be able to maintain his GPA at this level, or better.
ND fans like to boast about their prestigious school- which it is. Most of the fans on these sites, however, are NOT ND grads, and they only regurgitate what they hear from those few fans or graduates whom are "full of themselves". Most, if not many ND fans are great people that refrain from this behavior.
The bottom line: there are quite a few ND "trash-talking" people. These few are "sour grapes" people who speak publicly on a forum, behind a computer, that have too much time on their hands. It's very easy to do this. Also, due to their favorite team having a few problems in in some areas that they choose to perpetuate and project on the internet, or direct to the school whom they are angry about.
Ignore these types of people. Everyone has their own agenda and thought process. Plus, they like to try and "raz" the students, faculty, and faithful of LSU Tiger fans, and other schools. I have found this is especially true if people are NOT Catholic- which Gunner is not.
I would suggest that these few aggressors go to the grotto and ask for forgiveness for the spite they throw out to all of the recruits who do not choose their school, and whatever problem or issue they are dealing with, personally.

I certainly don't either. His interviews, the few that I read, sound articulate and measured for an eighteen year old kid. It's not like his family isn't used to the college experience. If he chose to come here from Indiana, then I can only assume that his parents trust his judgment and analytical skills.
I also think this, and this will so aggravate the "Coach Kelly" crowd. He is much more likely to be nurtured and cared for here under Les Miles. If only half of what his players say about him is true, then Miles looks after his players to try to insure their success. Kelly certainly doesn't impress me that way after watching some of his antics from the sidelines this year.
I keep coming back to this, and some of those Bleacher Report comments from the article were terribly insulting to what seems like a nice kid, why did you want him? ND for all its swagger has fans that are just as idiotic as any other fan base. I wish this kid well no matter what happens to his football career.
