Apparently Hills and McKinley looked pretty rough in the LCA Acadiana game last night. I chatted with a coach in the area recently and we watched some film of the Acadiana defense and IMO, Dom didn’t look all that impressive to me. I saw a majority of the snaps, particularly in the jamboree, where the push was not in his favor.

I really want to believe that missing on a 5 star dt isn't a big deal, and he's not impactful in games. Kids have days off, and there's been kids who skip their sr yr and show up and are dudes still at next level.

No matter how good the kid is, lsu has a huge gap at dt if Wingo, mason, Jefferson, guillory all depart this yr... or if just 2-3 do. Our competition at atm, now ou/Texas, bama, uga, auburn, fl are grabbing dline in spades. We need to get going on some big uglies. Portal is a last resort, and have to build some form of roster base with hs kids. Hopefully we can close on a few kids.

Those jr and soph freaks coming up in state will be key to land

Both have had better games, for sure.

McKinley just looks physically impressive and I think once he gets to college you'll see him blossom. He's pretty fast for a guy his size, too. LCA generally has a good O-line and Acadiana was rushing 3 most of the night so I think that may have limited McKinley's effectiveness but even still they made JuJuan Howard uncomfortable in the pocket early on. His game may have looked better if the QB had not been someone as athletic as Howard.

Hills can be a beast but he does seem to have those sorts of games. When I am home, my son and I go to LCA games fairly often, he played football there but graduated the year before they won their first state championship. I usually sit right by Hills uncles. They know football and don't cut Melvin any slack out there, he hears it at home when he messes up or takes plays off (which he does occasionally). But I think Hills will also be good in college.

Didn't see the Jamboree but they definitely were getting the better of the push early in the game, seemed to lose steam as the game went on.

Judging a player in a high school game vs his potential in college is goofy

I watched glen dorsey get dominated by Redemptorist in a playoff game. He went on to become the greatest dt in lsu history

Agree. All time hs records state by state are littered with complete unknowns that never approached college stardom. Competition is equivalent to your local little league team. Best player generally looks godlike compared to his peers.

And what does that say about McKinley?

For every Glenn Dorsey as you say, there are guys who showed red flags in high school but had physical tools that end up like the sopshers of the world. Potential gets people fired.

This is not an original thought and does not need to be repeated every day. Why not enjoy the season that is, and whine in the off season. I can’t imagine how miserable those around you must be.

Eh, the portal will solve a lot of issues. I know it’s been said that you can’t rely on the portal every year but it’s not going anywhere and back to back years LSU has killed it.

If the BK approach is to not get into bidding wars with high school players and instead use those resources on proven players…then I don’t see how you can argue with it

Not sure on this. I'd say more like a coin toss. Not flaming, just questioning his motor after watching some of the game, not his measurables.
