re: Shea expects LSU to sign 27-28 players, and possibly end up getting 8-10 transfers

That is maybe the most glaring thing about this recruiting class..I know DTs aren't a dime a dozen, but at LSU you should be able to add a really good one in every class. We have had some really good ones come through here lately.

85 total on their roster
And I think you have until the start of fall camp to get here

I asked this on tRant the other day, but do we leave Fitz West at DT? Thinking that's gotta be a strong possibility with lack of depth there.
Definitely possible if they see Martinez as a Center going forward. The fact that he started vs UAB points to him maybe staying and having a role there next season. If we are covered there, West would likely be moved to defense full time.

- a return man. As said above, Lucas would solve this, but regardless we have to find somebody who's both reliable back there and a threat to break one. Not having that at all is the single worst problem on special teams
I’d bet good money they sign a proven returner. Will likely help our depth at receiver as well.

Great breakdown although I think we need two interior defensive lineman minimal.

Thanks for reposting, it’s a great breakdown of what LSU needs, besides a specials return threat and coach.

We have zero DT committed and hardly any depth on the roster we'd need 3/4 DT transfers
Agreed.
You are losing both "ends" in Gaye and Ojulari, and likely Roy. It was a minor miracle LSU was able to get through the entire season with essentially 3 DTs. You can't count on that happening again.
On the edge you like what Jones gave you and you think Wiggins COULD be really good. But after Jones, you really didn't have anyone else play behind Gaye and Ojulari. Outside of losing Smith (which was a HUGE loss) LSU was incredibly fortunate with respect to injuries along the DL. They didn't have a ton of depth and no one really missed any key games. IMO, I think they really need 2-3 more guys out of the portal.

Transfers killed it this season. Can’t wait to see who we get next.

I’d love to get a KR/PR specialist if one were to become available

a tight end who can catch, run and block like Mason Taylor. Having one is great; having two makes you almost impossible to defend.
Why is this??

Mismatch, a TE that’s good at catching and blocking, you can’t tell by formation, a run or pass, same with personnel packages. Watch a few NFL teams with 1,2,3 or 4 TE sets.

You might have a big safety or a fast linebacker who can match up and stop a great receiving tight end.
You almost certainly don't have two of them.
