Don't know but I wish LSU would make a impact hire with someone who can give us a few bluechips from Texas again. I think we're going to start noticing not picking up Texas recruits in a few years if this trend continues. Texas should be almost as high a priority to LSU as Louisiana. We should be making the most impact in Texas of all the SEC schools...

What? We just hired two coordinators that specialize in TX. it takes time to start a relationship , and the Oregon game this year will help even more

if they "specialize" in TX, shouldn't they already have teh relationships in TX?

I wonder if it has anything to do with how early UTa and A&M are recruiting? We are both almost entirely fully for the 2012 class (and most of the state top 50 are committed somewhere) and I know A&M already has a few 2013 recruits committed.

An out of state team would have to take an early commitment from these players and not be able to sit back and evaluate and wait for the best player possible from in-state or on the East Coast

just a thought

exactly, and I'm not holding my breath on Krag ever being a heavy hitter. MacGaughey has to come through for LSU

A bit of a strange year for the SEC in Texas. The talent level seems to be a only a bit down this year with 31 4 star (rivals) and above. Having said this, 71 Texas HS kids claim to have an SEC offer, with only one committment (Nathan Homes to Arkansas). So the SEC is recruiting Texas but the kids have thus far opted to go elsewhere.

LSU has offered 12 kids from the state (Matthews, Williams, Davis, McNeil, Knight, Nance, Pope, Magee, Riser, Hunter, Okafor, and David). Thus far without success.

Of the SEC Schools, only Arkansas is very active in Texas this year as Putrino follows the Mike Sherman method of recruiting the state (dropping written scholarship offers out the back of a 747 -like propaganda leaflets over Hanoi).

Most of the SEC schools have about 9 to 15 offers out to Texas kids.

Which is why I said impact hires. Guys who already have established connections and can impact recruit immediately. Mac might come through but like Books said, doubt Krag will ever be a great recruiter. Anything is a upgrade over Crowton though.

Position coaches get assigned areas to recruit. Coordinators don't normally hit the road recruiting much

Two big factors regarding recruiting in TX: Texas A&M and TCU. These guys are doing a great job keeping TX kids home, while at the same time shrinking the pool of top talent available for the other schools that dip into TX, like LSU.

Jim McElwain recruits Arizona and California for Alabama. Kirby Smart recruits Georgia for Alabama. Coordinators have to be able to recruit for Nick Saban.

Interesting, Cap. Our DC Tim DeRuyter has made inhome visits before but isn't assigned to an area and just helps his assistants recruit from my understanding.

And A&M doesn't have an OC. Coach Sherman handles the OC duties

McElwain is the only guy on staff with West Coast connections, having coached pretty much his entire career there before coming to Alabama. Kirby Smart played at Georgia, and was an assistant at Valdosta State at one time.
