I see he was a Catholic High graduate who went to Southern Miss. Anybody know the recruiting story concerning LSU on him?

Wow. Only 4 of the top 50 guards on that list ended up making NFL rosters.

Looks like he was 40-65 pounds lighter than the typical Miles OL signee. Les liked the huge maulers. He would have made Toms a TE at LSU.

Looks like we definitely missed on him. Boutte amd Dodd were mediocre at best, and Tom is in the NFL now.

There are so many good offensive linemen out there that never get a look. If you don’t go to camps they don’t really come and find you. It’s easier for the evaluators you just go to the camps and evaluate a bunch of kids at one location.

That's how it goes sometimes. Boutte was man-handling d-linemen at camps just like Kardell Thomas. Dodd was an athletic freak. Both had offers to other big schools, including Alabama, Dodd flipped from them to us.

Boutte was a monster run blocker but had some weaknesses in other areas.
