If Crowton can develop Dixon the way he did, imagine what he will do with Sheperd

yea maybe he can..dixson had better height and arm strength but shep is much more explosive and has decent mechanics..its a def possibility

People tend to compare RS to Patrick White, and I was more or less on that bandwagon until watching Shep's game last week.
As a HS senior, he made a couple of throws that I haven't seen White make in 4 years of college ball.
This is a recruit that is going into the PERFECT situation to showcase his skills. There is absolutely no ceiling here.

From what little I really remember about Dixon's early years at Oregon..he was pretty average and didn't really blossom into the playmaker we remember him as until his senior year.
I think Shepard is a more complete QB at this point than Dixon was, which is nice to think about.

If he's anything like DD, this team will roll. Oregon with DD was the only team that concerned me last year vs. LSU.

Oregon with DD last year would have steamrolled their way into the NCG and beyond.
Completely unstoppable on offense. Indefensible.

FWIW, Dixon didn't take off until Chip Kelly became Oregon OC. Lots of Oregon guys says Crowton held Dixon down by insisting on using 2 QBs.
This is not to say RS won't be a great player for LSU and Crowton won't develop him... because I think he will... just clarifying.

Yup. Dixon was a turnover machine in Crowton's offense. Got into Chip Kelley's offense which suited him a bit better, with a lot more maturity and was amazing as a senior. Probably being named the QB early and not having to split time with Leaf undoubtedly helped his confidence as well

So you think he's going to get hurt?
Man, that sucks.

IF he wouldn't have gotten hurt, he may have won the heisman and Oregon would have definitely gone to the NC game

Yeah, I agree. His release was quicker than I expected and his arm was quicker than I expected. He was throwing darts out there.

yeah, that was one of the main reasons I wanted to watch that game, to see what kind of arm he had. We had all seen the running highlight videos around... His first pass was low and the receiver dropped it even though the officials called it a catch. Other than that, all his throws were right on the money. He can throw the short out, the tight bullet over the middle, and the long ball. Very impressive performance.

I also give a lot of credit to the summer he spent playing baseball because Dixon himself gave that time spent maturing a lot of credit in his success as a senior. It wasn't just a Crowton to Kelley transition.

I think at this point Shep is a blend between White and Dixon. He is not yet as good of a passer as Dixon but better than White. He is very close to White's running ability, and better than Dixon's.
Who knows how much he will develop as a passer in one year under college expert tutelage. He could become a better runner than White and a better passer than Dixon. That combo along with the RB's/WR's LSU will have on offense could potentially be an unstoppable defense.

I can definitely see the similarities: similar build, similar offense with a big-time back in Lipscomb (just like Jonathan Stewart), and without a doubt, similar ability to hurt you through the air and on the ground. Scary thought to think about what he will be able to do with All-American talent surrounding him.
