LSU was definitely top 10 quality all year until the two post season meets.

They were in the 196’s at SECs and opening round of regionals, which is where every team in the country should be competing at their best. That part to me is hard to swallow.

But like every other sport, the only thing that matters is you hit when it counts during the post season, we didn’t do that unfortunately

I would take any 5th years we can get from other schools. There are rumors Norah Flatley is looking at SEC schools (her bf will be in Atlanta).

Let's not go that far. This year should tell you that just because they are a super senior doesn't mean they need to be in a lineup.

I heard she is planning visits to Michigan and Florida.

Actually, we should start with 5 or 6 10 SV’s. We’re only losing 1 vault & it was often the score we dropped anyway. So if some of these girls were already training bigger vaults throughout the season, surely they will be ready to go by next January. There’s really no excuse.

We should, but that doesn’t give me much confidence that we will. Too much history of things that were projected at the beginning of the season never coming to fruition. But we can hope!

My point on the previous page is that having 5-6 10 vaults doesn’t help if you don’t have landing control (see Florida, Utah and Alabama)

Hopefully they keep Tatum healthy, her 1.5 was looking very strong in practices. They got to get at least five 10.0 vaults by post season. Fulls just aren’t going to score at that level even with great vaults.

Despite all the drama surrounding Alexis Jeffrey (mostly from the Twitter crowd), I think she could help a lot next season on bars and beam. I think they wanted her to earn her spot coming in so late and considering the circumstances. But I also think they wanted to preserve a possible redshirt.

This is what I don’t understand, so maybe those of y’all who know gymnastics a lot better than I do can explain! Why would it take from now until post season of next year to have those vaults? What goes on between now and fall? Can/do they practice? Or just conditioning? Is there no way those 10.0 vaults couldn’t be good enough at the start of the season? That’s what I was expressing in my last comment. We keep hearing that we’ll have them by mid or post season, and we never do. Do we have girls who can do them already, or coming in next year? TIA for any insight!

judging typically gets harsher in post season. They are trying to pick apart routines more to differentiate more teams competing at the same time.

There is also more judges which gives you a larger range of potential scores.

At four on the floor, the bar judging was very generous. On vault, it was generous at times but they rewarded the 10.0 vaults more for their difficulty. Mistakes they made were not hit as harsh as a full. That isn’t to say you can’t get scored well doing it but it truly has to be perfect to break a 9.9 these days. The scoring potential drops.

Thanks for the reply TB357. But if you haven’t done 10.0’s during the regular season, seems it would be difficult and risky to debut them in post season. But as I said, I’m just a fan, with not a whole lot of gym knowledge! I am hopeful the coaches are going to seriously address everything that went wrong this year.

I was surprised at the attendance for nationals also.

Ok, I just read the most ridiculous thing on the gymnastics Reddit - want to see if anyone here as heard it. They are saying Pete Arenas is going to be the coach at Georgia, that Suzanne is going to to take over GEG for him, because she ultimately wants to try to get into elite coaching (though she is older now) and be the NTC for USAG?! I thought was the absolute craziest thing I have ever heard - anyone else heard inklings of this (since Elena is on the team, I thought some might have heard)

Oh wow! That’s big, but not unexpected. Did they say who will take over? I’m so curious about what Georgia will do too. Who knew the gymnastics coaching carousel would be as interesting as football!?!?

Not shocking at all. Regardless of the situation with him, his athletes and the whole transfer situation, things were not handled properly and I hope all parties involved learn from that experience. We’re human and we make mistakes. Great coaching is hard to find and as the great DD has said, “It takes a village”. Obviously KJ at Ou is the best, but I hope coaches like Jay Clark, Jenny Rowland, Jordan Weiver and Bev Plocki can turn it around so the top can ever change. I loved when the Georgia, Alabama Florida and UCLA,s were going back and forth with winning championships. Although OU is great every time they win I do feel let down because it’s the same thing over and over. The season as a whole was great, major kudos to the Auburns and Mizzou, program records and attendance, but come post season when OU is dominating like they do, I have a hard time feeling excited as a fan because it gets boring. They have literally only lost three times 2015, 2018, 2021 in the last 8 years. The coaches of these programs have to find a way to compete. Also NCAA has to do a better job to the fans. Schedule better times for these meets. Bring event finals back, and get it out of Forth Worth every year. We’re gonna loose the hype around the sport if things don’t change.

1. It’s Wieber not Weiver lol
2. This was the first year of the new schedule for Nationals. I’m sure as time goes on with the new schedule, post season engagement and viewing will continue to grow due to them recognizing a need for a change in the times, as well as the fact that it’s harder to get off work for a Thursday morning meet than it is for Friday afternoon.
3. I like having Nationals in Texas, just not at Dickies Arena. Dallas/Ft Worth area seems to be a more centrally located area for the teams who qualify to nationals in terms of their fans and ability to travel there. Plus more NCAA Gymnasts are from Texas than any other state so it also brings in their former club teammates to nationals to support them

Sorry Jordyn love her. Most sports championships are rotated. Final fours , Super Bowls, and championships are either on campus or a neutral site. I’m sorry it needs to not be in Texas every year. There’s 50 states, Fort Worth is not it. Sorry I used to attend nationals when they were different every year. Made the experience so much better and it was fun to explore a new city. No championship in any sport with the exception of baseball or softball has a 12n final. Go with what works. Don’t schedule a championship on a holiday as well. You have to plan which city and what’s going on in the city. Wether your a fan, or involved with teams, u have to accommodate travel and time off. I’ve been going to LSU meets since 1997 when I was 12 years old, started traveling when I got older around 2005, I used to love a trip to SEC’s and nationals.

The day off in between Semifinals and Finals is a huge issue. Who wants to pay for an extra night in a hotel plus the cost of food? They already took away EF and now they keep it 3 nights long but with only 2 days of gymnastics and 1/3 less teams to watch. Marsden was complaining about attendance and I’m shocked he doesn’t get it. Maybe because some of that was his idea and he can’t accept it didn’t work out for the fans? The gymnasts should be priority but the fans have to count for something.
