The problem is that the admission process is much easier for athletes. They don’t have to follow the same standards as non-athletes..I.e. GPA, test scores, etc. That’s unfair for students who truly deserve to be admitted.
And there was always something about Miss Val that I couldn’t pin point. She always seemed like a sneaky person to me. That’s why I wasn’t surprised when the story broke.

Gunter and D’Antonio were the top in state performers and both had about a 5 year track record at LSU’s gym camp working and holding their own in the top group. Tops is a huge boon to in state kids and keeps LSU with a couple of really good just not world class athletes in reserve. Both kids have had injuries since getting to LSU. 20 years ago they would be contributing now with Jay’s recruiting it will be hard to break a lineup. Both would be solid contributors at a smaller college.

I just looked back at Nationals and compared the scored between OU and LSU. LSU "lost" it on vault and beam. Vault landings is what gave OU about a 3-tenth advantage. And beam (mainly leaps and landings) gave OU roughly a 2-tenth advantage. Bars and floor were pretty much a wash between OU and LSU.
With that being said, I didn't realize how Ruby's and Edwards' vaults got better as the season went on. Just tiny steps on the landings at SEC Champs, Regionals, and Nationals. If LSU can find their landings early on and stay consistent, I think they can contend with OU on these events.

I’ve been saying it for a while but they need to water down the difficult leaps on beam. Scores could be maximized by doing easer combinations. They were ranking the Difficulty of all the teams at nationals this year. LSU had more than twice the difficulty of the next closest team on beam. Desiderio should not be doing the switch leap to the switch half, never hits 180. Give her an easier leap combo, everything else is pretty much perfect.
Dean has some flexibility issues, hopefully she can improve her leaps this offseason, as well as Durante.
Campbell needs a new dismount. I can’t tell you how many 9.95-9.90 scores she missed all because of the dismount.
Good news is Kiya is a phenomenal beam worker and will fill a hole at the end of that lineup. Hopefully Kai can make some noise on this event, she is super capable

I think the "hardest" skill done on beam for OU was Brenna's onodi. OU does simple skills, but they do them to perfection.
Also, when I went back and watched some of the meets as a "critic" rather than a fan, I noticed that Campbell rarely stuck her dismount. I also noticed how short Dean's and Desederio's leaps were on beam. Durante had a few short leaps, but she got better as the season progressed. Edney also had quite a few misses (big wobbles) on beam due to the front toss. I really don't see a need for it. With that being said, with Gnat gone, who is coaching beam?

Did Dowell do an Onodi or a Kotchetkova?

You’re right. It was a Kotchetkova. Had to go back and watch.

Beam has always been handled by DD
That said, there are a lot of changes I would make on this event. I see way too many combination that are not very easy to do along with poor skill selection choices. Unless the girls are constantly doing those skills in their sleep well, they shouldn't be forcing them onto a competition routine. Take a page from OU, water down the routines and focus on the artistry/presentation of it. Make it flow and look good. Not that I don't enjoy our beam routines but some of them are very 'robotic'. Compare Cambell and Finnegan with the rest of the pack. Yes they do have a couple routines that have some difficulty but its only a couple kids out of 6 routines.

The latter she did a full twist, Onodi is a half

Gunter just posted on her Instagram a video of her doing a bail handstand on bars. It actually wasn’t so bad. Makes me excited for the bars depth. Hopefully she can continue to progress.

I saw it too, I thought it looked pretty strong. Her release is a tkatchev and dbl lay dismount. Would love to see whole routine

Triplefull (Mariah) just posted on Instagram some videos of the Pan Ams team during podium training. Aleah looks great! Her landings were much more solid than at GK Classic. Still hoping she can do more than 1 event for in qualifications.

I don't think you can successfully talk about OU beam without mentioning those "Jurassic Park-esque" bird landings. I literally think my chin was on the floor watching them land their 1.5 dismounts with wide knees and rear ends 20 ft in the air. Granted they didn't move, but there's also nothing artist or graceful (or even controlled) about landing in the same position you would make when using a public restroom.

I can't find either Gunter's bars on instagram or the training videos on the triplefull instagram account. Can anybody help me out?

Aleah's vault during podium training

US released its lineup for the women's team final tomorrow. Aleah will compete on vault and floor.
Eaker gets the nod over Wong in the AA, interesting.

That’s great that Aleah gets to go on floor too, I thought they’d just put her in for vault!
Btw, did anyone else find it odd that Emma Kelley is at a cheerleading camp? (Or so it seems from social media)

Aleah did a great job as she wrapped up her day.
3rd highest floor score for team USA. A mistake on her last pass kept her out of the floor finals (2 per country rule). She had the 4th highest floor score of the competition.
Had the highest vault score of the day for Team USA with a career high 14.700. She is currently tied for 4th in qualification for vault final. Comes down to her 2nd vault.

Watching broadcast recorded last night. Really disappointed they did not show Aleah's Vault. It was the highest for the USA and of that entire Subdivision.
You would think they would show it. I guess with broadcast being controlled by Peru and the fact that she's new on international scene played into it
She did however get alot of camera facetime

Aleah's floor routine
Here is Aleah's floor routine for those who didn't see it. Disappointed they didn't show her vault which was the highest score for Team USA.
I really wanted her in that floor final. 2 per country rule can be unkind sometimes.
