LSU was number 13 in the country with ERA of 1.91. Alabama was 15 with 2.00. Our pitching was actually very good I think the problem was pulling the pitchers at the right time. Just like the last game this weekend against UL. Ali should have pitched the last inning. Some of the batters from UL had already batted 3 or 4 times off Sydney.

I’m optimistic about pitching. I think Chaffin could be a good #2 and I think and hope Alea keeps improving.

I’m concerned with fielding and hitting.

Their problem all season has been getting hits with RISP, leaves too many runs on base, need to work on situational hitting more and have two slappers at top of lineup does not help unless they get on, if not that 2 outs to start game

Maybe Washington will have some pitchers go in the portal. Whoever pitched last night didn't give up any runs to Louisiana. Maybe we can use 1 of them

To be fair Berzon shut them out game 1. She did have a rough go round 2 but Torina botched the management at the end of that 2nd game with a struggling freshmen needing help after facing that same lineup 5-6 times by that point in 2 days.

Berzon easily is far and away the best pitcher we have had since hoover/Walljasper. A 1.91 ERA as a true freshmen is amazing.

Chaffin and Johnson have a lot of potential but both will need to take significant steps this offseason to give Berzon support next season. As each year passes, pitching depth has become more and more important with how improved offenses are these days

Seem like the players never improve from year to year. Some actually regressed

I certainly did not overlook Berzon's outstanding Freshman year. The pattern has been lately for the pitchers to follow up a with a worse year than the previous. For instance Chafin did not improve from last year and Kilponen for a 5th year senior was 7-7 and gave up a lot of homers.

Now if Berzon has a better Soph season or at least as good as this season credit her. Hopefully she reverses the trend of following up a good year with a worse one

Most of the runs given up by Berzon in the last game were in the first inning, she certainly wasn’t tired then. Berzon had a big advantage this last year with nobody having game film on her to see what she throws. Will be interesting to see how teams approach her now that she will be considered the number one from the start of the season and teams will know what to expect from her.

I find it very hard to believe that Berzon did not know what she should do on a pitchout. I find It ridiculous that any player that has played for that many years would throw three strikes on an intentional walk. No excuse for that, in my opinion.

Incoming freshmen pitchers the last couple of years and from now on, have never intentionally walked a batter by making 4 pitches. In HS, we've been able to just send a batter to 1st without throwing a pitch for a couple of years now.

I learned my lesson as a coach with intentional walks about 15 years ago when we lost game 1 of a playoff series when my pitcher threw one to the backstop while trying to put a runner on 1st to load the bases with one out in the 11th. Thankfully we won games 2 and 3, but from then on, we worked on intentional walks with the pitchers & catchers & whole team at least once per week after that.

Love my Tigers. But Louisiana was the better team that day. That final game was insane. I know the optics. Two straight years out in regionals. A good bit removed from the last WCWS appearance. But I think the mistakes are starting to be corrected at LSU. I really think we had a good year. And Louisiana is a good program.

LSU only graduate 3, 7/9 starters return in addition to Bergeron and Carson (who’s returning from injury), returns 4/5 pitchers, and brings in a pretty solid recruiting class. My feeling of the program is better than it has been the last few years. I think if we stay healthy, we have the talent to make the WCWS.

I like the talent LSU brings in. Some really athletic players. I have seen a change in the recruits they’ve been bringing. I can’t really explain it, but idk it’s a feeling. Briggs, Newland, Redoutey, Pleasants, Coffey, even Gutierrez. I think she’s seeing the success Alameda is having and trying to align herself into that pattern. Im excited to see Sierra Daniel. I don’t know where she’ll play, but I feel like she’ll find time. Same with McKee and Bedell. They may not pop this year, but I think they can be real contributors to this program. Then you round it out with Manning, Edwards, and Laneaux. Don’t really know much about all these recruits, other than by reading (so feel free to add in more about them), but what I do know is that they bring in some very good speed to this program. Daniel and McKee both stole bases like crazy in high school.

However, Beth’s recruiting classes need to show on the field. We can’t be bringing in top 5 talent and delivering a top 10/15 program. I know, high expectations, but this is LSU. A pretty GOLD standard athletic department. I also personally want to see Briggs and Pleasants finish their careers in OKC. They are program defining players and great leaders of this program.

No coaching staff changes apparently. Does anybody think any changes will be made. Like I posted several weeks back, status quo and the same cast of characters leading the program when we resume play in Clearwater. Geaux Tigers!!!!

I’ve noticed that too. She’s going after athletes that have all the tools. Hopefully, they can start performing at the same level as FSU.

Lindsey Leftwich is taking the head coaching job at NC State congrats to her for getting a head coaching gig. So LSU will be getting a new coach in the staff.
