Beth is putting together potentially her best overall recruiting class for 2024. now what is the likelihood we are able to get the #1 outfielder in this class, Townsen Thomas?
she had an official visit the same weekend as Sa’mya Jones but since then has had visits to UF, UCLA, UW & Texas. any insight if we are in the running for her?

Thoughts on the scrimmage at Sam Houston State. We attacked the ball at the plate, we pitched all non starters from last year with Chaffin leading off and giving up a bomb but three good innings and three runs on the bomb. Casanova entered the game and struggled the first inning with a HBP followed by a walk then a bomb. She then settled down. She may turn out to be a great surprise in time. She is a 6’2” walk on pitcher with a 69 mph fast ball and a 45 mph change. She is a Beth project and it seems to be coming along well. Taylor Edward’s pitched well throwing close to 70 but still straight as an arrow no movement she also gave up a bomb. Stroud came to close out four outs and retired most all with pop ups.
The bats were hot and attacked with 7 HRs on a short porch field 190 in the corners 220 centerfield. I would guess 4 would defiantly been out at Tiger Park. Hitting bombs Pleasants, Clark, Stewart, Petty (2), Roudetey, Newland had a slam. Multiple players with multiple hits including Petty with 4 and Carson with two.
Saturday night the Tigers played Texas State and through 7 it was a 5-3 game with the freshmen pitchers throwing after Kilponen shut them down for three innings. Petty continues to impress with the stick and Berzon was outstanding.
Berzon had a nice night with 6k’s in three innings, this Texas State team is a decent team. But so hard to get a good read on anything due to half hitting and half fielding them flipping them around.
Final scrimmage score after 10 innings 9-3, I hate these long scrimmages……but everyone hit some playing time both nights.
Very positive with the effort on the weekend compared to last year when Okie State put it on us in the fall. They definitely moved them around in the field with no one get all the innings. Texas State had some quality arms just not too tough with the sticks.
Here are my notes:
Briggs BB
Stewart- single through infield
TP- walk
Clark- RBI single to left field
Carson- lined into DP at second
Petty- K
Kilponen-walk, 2 ground outs, pop up to third
2nd
Savoy- K
Housmanzada- soft pop up third
Giglio- line drive single to left, left early third out
Briggs-
Kilponen-K, pop up to third, hard line out to Briggs on the run
3 inning
Briggs- Ground out to third
Stewart- Ground out to short
TP- walk
Clark- pop up to third
Kilponen- K, BB, single to left, line out to 2nd into a DP.
4th inning 3-0 Tigers
Carson- hard single to right
Petty- 2 run HR
Savoy- line drive single to center
Houshmenzada- infield pop up
Giglio- bunt ground out
Briggs- pitcher ground out
Berzon- fly out with Briggs bring it back in the fence for the out, several illegal pitch calls due to leaving the glove twice, walk, WP runner to second, K, ground out
5th 5-0 Tigers
Stewart- BB, WP moves third
TP-HBP, WP moves to second
Clark- 2 RBI single thrown out at second
Carson- K
Petty- triple into left field corner
Savoy- K
Berzon- K, K, BB, K
6th inning 5-0 Tigers
Coffee- 6-3 ground out
Redoutey- hard line out to first
Newland- 4-3 ground out
Berzon- K, 5-3 ground out, single to center, WP move second, WP moved to third, K
7th Inning 5-3 Tigers WIN
Bergeron- K
Petty- F-6
Gutierrez- 5-3
Alea Johnson- K, BB, BB, single to Lft, bases loaded, BB run scores, Sac fly to center run scores runners held at 1st and 2nd, runner steals third no throw from catcher, single down the third base line scores one, walk bases loaded, K

Speaking of catchers, WTF how did the catchers look on defense during this weekends scrimmages?
Posted on 10/19/22 at 9:44 am to Tigerbait357
So do we have a total of 5 commits now for the 2024 class?

No Stats but have seen her play a few times. Very good defender and a powerful batter.

Her Twitter has video of some live at bats and some workouts. She looks like a power hitter from the right side with good quickness out of the box.

Went back and looked for info on Jada Phillips. Her Twitter is also full of video. It looks like she competes in Olympic weightlifting and qualified for Nationals back in July. Power and explosiveness is not going to be an issue with her.

New to the forum (Thanks Kev for the heads up!) and a softball junkie. But not sure which rankings you're using but we did better than that in 2024:
Jayden Heavener is tied for #2 in Extra Innings and Perfect Game has her at #4 (no ties). She also used to be the #1 ranked in class.
Sa'Mya Jones is tied for #4 in Extra Innings and Perfect Game has her at #2 (no ties). She also used to be the #1 ranked player in the class.
Destiney Harris is tied for #6 in Extra Innings and ranked #38 in Perfect Game with no ties.
Zoe Calvez is ranked #5 in Extra Innings, not ranked in Perfect Game.
Jada Philips ranked #17 (tied) in Extra Innings and not ranked in Perfect Game.
Alix Franklin (newest addition) is tied for #27 in Extra Innings and not ranked by Perfect Game.
2023 CLASS also higher ranked. 2023 RANKINGS IN EXTRA INNINGS (Perfect Game hasn't done 2023 class yet):
WALKER tied at #7 with Sierra Daniel
DANIEL tied #7 as indicated
MANNING tied at #8
BEDELL tied #9
MCKEE tied at #21
LANEAUX tied at #22
EDWARDS tied at #43
These are the two primary authorities in rankings for softball. Extra Innings has been in softball only and around for several years but is more subjective (political). Perfect Game has been around awhile but in baseball, and takes a more objective measurable/result oriented approach. You can see the politics in the "ties" included in ExtraInnings, for example Jada is 17 but more than 70 players listed ahead of her (?). So really the Top 10 is more like the Top 35 or so and they have relationships to keep so they tend to rank with that in mind. Neither perfect at it but great indicators of talent, and I love what Coach Beth is doing so far.

Townsen Thomas is a great player WHEN she plays. She is injured A LOT though. Think she runs track and plays softball at high level so gets hurt often. Don't think she played at all this past summer or the summer before because of injuries.
Still, saw her and Jones were on the visit together. Was still hoping we got her along with Jones. Maybe with college guidance, workouts and health care the injuries would stop.

Alix Franklin is not a big kid but she is very explosive. Strong and athletic. Not extremely fast but she swings with bad intentions. Good kid too. Works her butt off.
