How does eligibility work if your done with school?

As long as you are enrolled in school and academically eligible you are athletically eligible, so it could be working toward a higher degree or another degree.

Chio had a monster opening JO meet scoring over a 39 in the AA.

We either have an Auburn, Oregon or Florida troll on this board. The mistakes are obvious on these links Tigerbait357 so, there's no reason for the down vote. Our girls were deducted for a step back or hop forward. Judging certainly varies from one team to another.

Not a troll on an LSU board. There’s so many other options across media platforms they have to come over here.

So I have been doing a lot of thinking this weekend and wanted to see what everyone though about realistic expectations for this year now that Kiya is likely out and what you hope to see from Jay.

Realistic Goals:
Top 15 RQS at end of season
Make it to the second round of regionals
SEC Night session

Stretch Goals:
Top 10 RQS at the end of season
Make it to the National Semifinal (Round of 8)
Still maintain a top 3 finishing position at SEC Championships

I would love them to exceed all of these goals, but just kind of trying to reset possibilities in my own mind (this year wasn’t going to be our year in any event what with Florida and Oklahoma, but now…)

As for Jay, I need to see him generally let other routines develop outside of Arenas and Schennikova on beam.

Specifically, he needs to take this year to get Alyona a dismount (even the double tuck) that she can do consistently and land. He needs to bring Cowan on in bars and get livvy in the rotation so Arenas can be removed. He also needs to take this time to at least experiment with different 10.0 starts on vault - it’s time to see what the girls who are training them can do.

What do y’all think? What’s reasonable? Possible? A stretch?

I wouldn't count that out, Softly225. You would be surprised how many are on the LSU Tiger Droppings Football Board and most likely Gymnastics as well. I saw on Reddit where someone lifted a quote from our board not so long ago.

To be honest, I have no goals for this team at this point. I just want to see some development, which is a stretch. I haven’t really seen a gymnast being “developed” since Myia Hambrick. She had the fire and desire to learn new skills. She wanted to get better and did so by putting the work in each summer. Not saying these girls don’t want to get better, but I haven’t seen proof from the coaching staff that they can actually aid in the gymnasts getting better.

My hopes are Jay gets some other girls in, but reality says he just plugs alyona and Elena in every spot he can. I haven’t seen anything from him that says otherwise. I’m actually surprised he had Bryce in beam. What really pisses me off is we see all these other teams putting all their freshman in the lineups to take their growing pains in the beginning of the season so they are better by postseason but not us. Nope, we like to “ease” them in.

Would like to see us in night session but I think a lot of our season rests on the next few weeks and how we handle kiya out and the lineups.

Also other teams are pushing the envelop with the 10.0 vaults but we seem content to not ever upgrade. Its still early but in the coming weeks they have to start sticking more of these vaults.

I think they have to develop Cowan on bars and use her eventually. She was considered a highly coveted JO bar worker who heard from a lot of major program due to her bars over the last year or so before coming to college. This is the type of routine where LSU has to develop and polish it into the 9.9 capability that it can be, as alluded to previously much like Myia Hambrick.

I'd love to see Jeffrey in beam eventually but it doesn't seem like Jay is even considering her just from an outside point of view. Annie Beard who I think we want in this lineup has struggled to stay healthy which is out of anyones control.

Hopefully they do good tomorrow. We are only 2 weeks in but the next 2-3 weeks will say a lot moving forward. I also won't be able to do a meet thread unfortunately.

My first comment is hoping for no more injuries. Second, I have been critical of Jay the last two seasons not utilizing depth. This will be my last post about Coaching or being critical because I feel it takes away from the wonderful things LSU has done in the past. Gymnastics is a difficult sport and LSU is not the only team who goes through injuries. I look at a team like Denver who lost Lynzee last season. That team performed well at the Auburn region last season and those same girls that stepped in are now prepared for this season. They look great this year and I say that to say, coaching. I loved what Jay has done with helping build the program up since he joined. I don’t know him personally, I just don’t get head coach from him. I don’t like any of his press conferences. He gives vibes of a men’s team coach that just spat stats about the sport of gymnastics. I just don’t like excuses for poor performance. He is very hard headed and seems to not look within self. Not a head coach leading young women. There is a disconnect about him to me. This is his second go around as a head coach. He had the tools at Georgia to be successful. Same here at LSU. These programs have been built up because of the Sarah, Suzann’s and DD’s who started out with way less. It takes a village to be successful but it always starts at the top. That’s in coaching, business and parenting . Look at the Georgia and Arkansas teams with Olympic coaches. That success does not always translates to coaching young men and women. I can always root for my home team, but also not like parts of it. This season is critical if he will continue to be our head coach after his contractual agreement is up.

There’s an article online from today that seems reliable and says Kiya is out for the season with her Achilles injury. I believe it’s the opposite Achilles that she tore in high school. Honestly kind of a miracle she made it this long without tearing when we heard it was an issue every year.

She has potential eligibility for two more season (one COVID, one redshirt) but she’s already in graduate school so who knows how much more schooling she’ll want to do.

I think Edwards developed quite well, but she was really the last one I can think of. We have taken on many walk ons with potential but many of them have not developed into lineup contributors eg Nibbs, Rau, Ryan.

Sounds like Bailey is doing a podcast. Here she talks about weigh-ins at LSU. LINK

Looks like another YF on vault today unless something changes.

News updates for LSU gym: Kiya confirmed out with Achilles, Bryce could be back next week (Mizzou), Chase Brock was ready to vault Friday and could go tomorrow, Elena will probably keep her spot on beam, Jay hopes Livvy can go tomorrow (calf issues have kept her out).

Summary of Bailey's podcast on Twitter:

If true (and have no reason to doubt it), this is not a good look and it cost us a contributing team member.

The last thing LSU needs is more hate mongers over this podcast. All Gym Teams have weigh-ins. It's unfortunate that Bailey's mindset (at the time) led to undesirable weight loss. She was one of my favorite elites and so talented throughout her gymnastics years. She graduated from LSU and is doing well. I wish her the best in the future.

Football even has weigh-ins, college and NFL. I always liked Bailey. Wish things would have worked out for her here. But she seems to be doing well for herself.

Having a nutritionist on staff is likely not unique to LSU as most elite programs would have someone to monitor their athletes. The problem may be in the way a few might internalize the guidance. Gymnasts are very perfectionistic and its easy to see how this might lead to anorexia. Bailey may have been one who reacted this way. Hopefully the coaches assure there are counselors available to assist with whatever emotional issues arise, but some people are reluctant to seek help because they see it as a sign of weakness. The coaches need to reflect on how the whole situation was handled and use it as a learning experience in the best management of the team in this area.

I'm really happy they finally rolled the dice on Brock's 1.5 on vault. It looked excellent for her first time out
