Who do ya'll think we land this year?
I 100% think Shelton Sampson needs to be priority #1 for now
A TON of in-state defensive talent too.
I predict our next commit to be Michael Daugherty.
LSU can build a championship team with in-state talent.
Prioritize the Boot.

Pretty much the top 15 in the state? Except only 1 of the 3 QBs

Louisiana needs to be made the priority. Yes national recruiting is important but we need more Jack Bech and less Arik Gilbert.

Seems like nowadays a lot of these monster 5* recruits are ready to fake an injury and wait for the draft as soon as they get a chance to. I'm not arguing they're talent but it doesn't help us when Eli Ricks decides a halfway through the season to go against LSU's advice and have a surgery early. Then he transfers to Bama because he's a hired gun.

He doesn't give a frick about lsu. Now going into the season our best corner is going to be Greg Brooks. A kid that was a low 4* from Nola a few years ago and O passed on him but he transferred back to the boot because like all the other kids in our state they grow up dreaming of wearing those colors.

Make Louisiana the priority. I'd rather developmental local kids then these headcase 5* out of state kids that are constantly surrounded but uncles telling them that our program isn't doing them right with their hand out.

Solo, I think your post is great. But, I think it's hard to be a national contender when schools in the West are signing 8 - 5 Stars. At the National Championship level, I think you need more of a mix (Local + 5 starts)

On a different note, not seeing LSU mention on rivals with the 5 stars like back in the day with Coach O. This is VERY concerning to me.

This staff is much more qualified to build a talented roster and sustain excellence than O ever dreamed of. We have a team of professionals now as opposed to a meathead and a bunch of coaches who are either unproven or washed up.

Signing 8 5-stars every year is un sustainable imo. Kids want money yes, but they want to play 3 and be done… Even with NIL

Teams are built starting with QB.. then Dline…. Then O line. Then the rest. LSU has probably almost caught up on the line of scrimmage with the current roster. The flash of five star DB and skill players is fools gold if you do not have the line up to parity.

Our oline is 2 years away from being bama, uga, oh st, atm level recruiting.

We don't even know who will start and at what positions on it.

Dline were solid, this year, but if roy/ guillory/ gaye/ ojulari all jump to the nfl, we are weaker at dline then bama, atm by a mile, arky, uga, fl.

The teams in the playoffs every year are killing it by recruiting at a national level, not spending extra resources in state.

you guys keep arguing against a statement the OP never made. he didn't say you didn't need or shouldn't get some out of state guys, just making a valid point not to give up on La. kids who are loyal to the school. if they don't modify the transfer portal it's going to be the only way to keep something of a solid base of players from year to year.

Lots of high 3's and low 4's in louisiana that we pass on (relative to the number of schollies you can give out each year) that we might should bring in. of course we have to go out of state for olinemen. fortuneately, these guys don't seem to be as flaky as other position groups. they tend to stay longer.

anyway, i like some of the posters trust that Kelly does a damn fine job of recruiting and balancing talent and character and development. i think we'll see some of the finest and most balanced recruiting we've ever seen since Nick Saban.

Recruiting is changing in ways that are still unknown.

Couldn't disagree with you more. You have 2-3 windows typically with quality players. If you have a badass QB and Dline but your DBs constantly get burned then you're not winning shite. Every single class should have:

1- QB
1- RB
3- WR
1- TE
3- OL
3- DL
2- LB
2- CB
2 - S

And then you fill your roster needs from there. In a day with the spread at a premium then you desperately as many quality DBs and WR as possible.
