with Martinez showing out this past week and Fitzgerald West waiting in the wings along with a stellar OL class inbound, do you all really think we need to recruit a Center from the portal who’s ready to start day one?

I’ve heard a few folks saying we need to replace an OG and a C for next year, but I’m just not seeing it. We have studs stacked like firewood.

I think we're good, but if there's anybody that could possibly make us better, you have to consider it. IOW, I don't think it's a must have, but if somebody wants in, lagniappe.

Charles Turner is the one guy who absolutely has to come back next year….he’s more important than Jayden Daniels…in my opinion

Returning a Center is always a huge deal but c’mon man. JD with another year of development could be something very exciting

One thing I saw Saturday was the center of the pocket not getting pushed back into the QB. Was that because UAB doesn’t have anybody who can do that, or that Martinez at 330lb is tough to move backwards.

Kelly commented on him doing a good job and joked that Turner better get back soon

Mubenga and Chester will probably cross train at Center when they arrive at LSU. I don’t think there’s a need there.

We don't need portal OL recruits. We have a good group coming in from high school, our starting 5 returning, and guys like Martinez, Shorts, and however you view Dellenger/Frazier, coming back as experienced backups.

LSU will build from the high school ranks there until it is really, really necessary to go in the portal for one. You're not going to find a Larry Allen or Joe Thomas hi4ting the portal.

Agree completely. And along with West and Martinez, we have some beef and talent waiting in the wings. But I’ve seen a number of people on this board commenting that we needed to recruit a ready-for-prime time Center, & I just couldn’t get my head around that.

We have other needs to fill.

After decades of following recruiting; I don’t understand how it works for Centers.

Back in the day, Big Ben Wilkerson was a viscous five star center. He could have played any of the five positions.

Now, usually I see that the top ranged centers are usually low 4 star or 3 star prospects.

However, OGs around them can be 5 stars like (Kardell ).

I assume that OGs can learn the position and move to center. But why was there a dedicated recruiting Ratin g for a position that was usually low rated (like fullback)?

How hard is it to teach a G to be a C?

Also, remember that I don’t know what I am talking about. I 100% knew that Super Dozen JERRY SEVIN with his 6-1 height would get under those early 2000’s NTs was going to be a 3 year starter and go to the nfl.

I know you meant this as a joke, but their center really has just entered the portal

Depth in the trenches is what separates elite teams from good teams.

He will be.
But based on CBK's comments on Martinez' play Saturday night, maybe MM has learned all the calls well enough to take PT or even the starting role from Turner.
And Turner is my Most Improved Player for the season. Not shooting at the kid.
