do you really want a 5th year RB?
Addai was a 5th yr senior.

RB's? Define good, if he's still here after 5 years he probably has no NFL potential or got hurt. If he RS's then has a good year in 2014, he will probably bolt anyway. If not he's just probably taking carries away from Fournette or whoever else we sign.

yes because all RB situations are the same

He was medical RS.
All I'm saying is, if you RS and then he plays well, he can bolt to the NFL any time after 2013 anyway, so what do you gain by not playing him a year?

I never said that. I just see no advantage. The only reason you'd want him to RS is to have him an extra year in this case the 2015 and there is no guarentee he will stay for that year.

you, who was huge on the Rob Bolden will heal all bandwagon can't see it? So for Fournette's sophmore year, we will have him and whoever else we sign from his class, whatever true freshmen and maybe a senior Jeremy Hill? Sounds like an awesome rainy day plan. RBs never get hurt. Fournette is a 1000% lsu lock. You only need 1 RB anyway etc.

LF is priority #1. Get him then likely take 1 or 2 more.

Paleilei is 5'9 190, which is very close to what Magee was as a hs JR. He just happens to be fast and shifty. His bulk is not an issue. Frank Wilson wants some new types of backs infused into the system. He's smart. He knows that the straight ahead, pure power, downhill style of back will not work consistently against very good defenses. UGA(1st half), Miss St and Bama(both games) proved as much. We need guys that can bring something different to the table. It's also been given as the primary reason for passing on Adam Taylor. He's no different than the backs we have. Frank wanted Ryan Green or no one. We'll take a speedier back next year.

False, he played from 2002-05 and never redshirted.
I've heard reports that Magee may RS this year, not sure if they are true or not

Addai got to LSU in 2001 chief.

Addai started his stint at LSU in 2001, but after only two games was granted a medical redshirt.

He was a medical RS the same way a bunch of guys were back then....in name only.

you must have me confused with someone else. all i said about Bolden was, if he doesn't count against the 25 for 2013, which multiple sources have said he does not, then its basically like a free spin on a slot machine. The one caveat I did say was I hope they don't RS him

Weren't the RB's in 2011 a RS Soph, 2 Soph (3 if you count Gore) and 2 Fr? Sounds like a big problem.

Of course they get hurt. They can also transfer or go pro early. There is no guarantee that Magee would stay thru 2015 if he was RS'ed now is there.

Far from it, but what is a lock is we will sign 2-3 RB's in 2014 and hopefully he is 1 of them. Even if he's not, there's a good chance the ones we get will be pretty good, plus we'll sign some in 2015.

Nah, you need a stable, ideally, they'd be spread out a little bit, but usually some one doesn't work out. LSU has been fortunate to get several that are all good at the same time. I'm a fan of signing at least 1 QB and 1 RB in every class.

so what. he is not/should not play at all this year. Same for Hill.

As good as we are at RB, I really don't see any of our guys going pro early unless one of them has such a breakout year that his performances demands we give him the bulk of the carries.
If that's the case the we enter 2013 with the same SIX back we have now, including three Srs. I think we could take two for 2014 and still be comfortable, but might need three to protect against career injury and transfers.
If we get Fournette then we're already at one. There is usually at least one other solid in state back we can pick up.

Why not? What's the benefit to him and the team if he doesn't play?

Hill didn't play last year, you think he should go from Nov/Dec 2010 whenever his last HS game was to Sept 2013 without playing a game? That makes about zero sense.

you don't have to be a first round pick to go early. Ford and Ware are projected to be anywhere from late 3rd to 5th round picks. It is highly unlikely they would improve that postion by coming back to LSU in 2013. If they do come back, someone will likely transfer. The only reason to have someone RS in 2012 is to have him eligible for an extra year, which for the RB's will be 2015. There is no other benefit. And the only reason you want these guys in 2015 is because they are known commodities, the RB's we get in 2014 and 2015 are not.

if all backs stay for senior yr. we will have 6 rbs that are all likely to see the field, plus 3 that havent had any pt but are juniors and sophmores.
Just get LF and we will still have 5 rb's on roster pending if kenny hilliard goes to nfl
