He wouldn’t have started over Mays or Smart, maybe Marlon Taylor but he might not be a 3

At 6’5 and nearly 200 lbs he is without a doubt big enough to play the 3 in college

No. He will be coming off the bench at best at Memphis. Penny is basically overhauling his entire team. And he is going to find out that there is a lot of value with experienced players. I won't say they won't win the NCAA next season, but the recruits he's bringing in will not be as good as the Fab 5. And he WOULD NOT have started for LSU next season either. He would not knock Mays, Smart, Taylor, Hyatt or Manning out the starting lineup. Yea, Taylor, Hyatt and Manning play more of a 3 than a 2, but just making a point that one of these 3 and Mays and Smart will be in the starting lineup. Quinones is a very good shooter, but he isn't very athletic. He has good ball handling skills and has a good Bball IQ, but he is gong to get smoked on the defensive end. There's a lot of learning at LSU with when to rotate and where to rotate to and etc. Penny runs a basic man defense with very little rotation and very little switching. Fight through the picks and screens instead of switching or rotating. Quinones isn't ready for that. Losing out on Sy hurts more than Quinones. LSU has plenty of guards, not enough big men.

I'd say it was the deciding factor. With the class Memphis has coming in, Quinones would have a better chance getting playing time at LSU than there. Quinones wants to play in the NBA, not until he gets a lot more athletic. You don't play in the NBA unless you can create your own shot.
