Some people really need to stay on the rant.

Did this guy just completely stay under the radar and impressed LSU coaches at a recent camp or something???
Yes. He's impressed everyone nationally this year.

video/film is sent out by high school coaches to universities all over the country. Interested schools/coaches evaluate such video/film and thus the recruiting game begins.
And there is very little time to send out film after a kids senior year. His jr film wasnt enough to warrant consideration from anyone.

Film can never replace in-person evaluation. It is actually a poor evaluation tool and normally just used to screen. Occasionally film can support the fact a kid is very obviously a "take", but those are rare exceptions and still do not replace in-person.
My point? Geography IS a factor as these coaches go to tons of local games and get more opporunities to see the local kids in games, on unofficial visits and camps.

Geography has quite a bit to do with it. We started evaluating him during the season. We didn't wait for film to come out. Who knows when they put the highlights together and who they sent them to. LaTech was one of his other offers, and that was from Jabbar Juluke, a guy that coached against the kid this past season.
Local relationships led to us being tipped off about him. Being an hour away led to us being able to easily evaluate him in person.

I'll buy that

Every scout site in the country. He'd be a top ten player in LA with more experience.

What are you talking about bro??? He has 3 offers...San Diego St., LA Tech and LSU.

This is another good point I omitted. Louisiana high school coaches are overwhelmingly LSU fans, and even if a particular school or region is weak, the parents aren't. The resources to screen "in" the best players in the state are nearly unlimited for LSU, compared to any other program. If we don't get them, it's not for lack of identification - some kids go elsewhere for a whole host of reasons, and occasionally a kid blooms so late that even we miss him and he goes to UL-M or whatever.
In any event, "geography" is one of the most significant factors in recruiting. Local kids are more likely to be fans of the school, as are their parents. Even if not, they are more likely to go to a school so their family and friends can attend games in person. They will more likely camp and take unofficial visits to schools closer to where they live, regardless of whether or not they are a fan of a local school.

Watch their senior films and you make that decision. Spears after one year of football is already on another level than our "projects

I agree with this. Just watched his senior highlites. This guy has excellent hands and great body control. Does a great job going up and snatching the ball. And puts his body in a great position to screen out the defender. With coaching on route technique and getting separation he is going to be a good one.

Yes. Yes he is. If he just looks at film, he will likely get excited.

I mean, it's really bad this morning. It's one thing to question the offer, but once you've had explanations and seen the film, ow could you doubt the staff?
It's easy to come on here and doubt the offer and claim he won't be shite in three years, because how often does a recruit become a star? shite cracks me up.

The only thing that sticks with me, so far, is the Armand Williams situation. And it's probably off-the-field stuff that we don't know about, logjam at the depth chart, or whatever, but I was convinced the kid was going to blow up. We're about to get to his 4th year in the program - there's time, but it is running out. I occasionally see him on a special teams play, but that's it.
Having said that:

It is purely a numbers game - you have to get 3 kids to fill 1 spot, Spears could become the best receiver in this crop or never play. It will not invalidate the current evaluation as a "take" in my opinion, regardless of what Rivals or Scout do with their "stars."

One of the things to think about is that the LSU coaches eval'd guys on the teams he played against. They know what DBs on St Aug and Karr and Rummel and Shaw can do, so they could more accurately look at his film to supplement what they saw in person.
