Been seeing a lot of Notre Dame fans saying BK was a so so/lazy recruiter who did okay but couldn’t get them over the top on a lot of prospects.

My question for you recruitnicks is how accurate do you think that perspective is? Is this just sour grapes or is this something to be concerned about going forward?

It should be Kelly's top priority to keep Raymond on board. He has to have someone to rely on to tell him how to run things in this state.

Look at the kids he’s put into the nfl.

It’s not really hard to put it together that he is a very good recruiter & developer of talent

It's hard to say. The ND fans that have been making those comments aren't just blatantly trashing BK - they admit he's a great coach and listed all the positive things about him.

But the negative that keeps resurfacing is in regard to recruiting. And not that he's not a good recruiter - just the opposite, in fact. The comments I've read say he's a dynamic recruiter that knows how to sell a player and a family on the program.

It's just that he's apparently "unwilling" at times to go all out in terms of recruiting.

Idk. Apparently tommy rees and marcus freeman said that he did not put a lot of effort in to recruiting. The vast majority of people from ND are saying that those 2 did the bulk of recruiting for him. He better develop a passion for it cause recruiting in the SEC is a whole different animal. Can’t just rely on the louisiana talent. Gonna have to battle for some big fish with other top schools

It's possible for Kelly to be a good recruiter and allow for the idea that Freeman and Rees took Notre Dame's recruiting up a level. Both of these can be true.

It isn’t that he isn’t a good recruiter. They apparently say he doesn’t put effort into it. Staff basically say they had to push him to recruit. Freeman and Rees did the bulk of it

Freeman has been there for less than a year and Rees has been the OC 2 years.

This year's class is really good, but Kelly has had really good classes without those guys, too.

Also, I've read that the 2016 season got him to reevaluate his entire program and one conclusion he came to was he needed to recruit better and change up the staff to hire better recruiters.

I don't see any reason he can't hire very good recruiters to work under him at LSU.

I don't buy that he has been lazy. He was out recruiting in California the day after their last game.

I've got no cause to believe he won't recruit energetically at LSU. He's not dumb or arrogant. I think he knows exactly what he's getting into.

I think that he's the kind of coach that does well when the kids come in the facility. He's not out burning the roads. The reason we're hearing all the negative be amplified is because there's it's really the only angle they have on him.

ND fans are delusional. I'm sure they think that he cant recruit because he couldn't patch together top 3 classes every year full of kids who score north of 23 on the ACT.

Recruiting at LSU is so much more efficient, though.

The LSU coach can limit his recruiting to 1.5 hour drives and 1.5 hour flights and reel in a top 5 class.

It's totally different when there is such an accumulation of talent in a small geographic footprint.

This is important. Wiltfong has stated that there are few better “in home” guys in all of cfb than Kelly.

I think the majority of head coaches let the staff do the bulk of the recruiting. Head coaches are used more for in-persons, phone calls, and for really special players. A head coach doesn't have to be the best recruiter of players. He has to be the best recruiter of staff that can get the players.

When i lived 45mins from any bars & restaurants everyone said i was a homebody & hardly go anywhere. When i moved into the city my wife says im hardly ever home.
20min drives > 5hr flights

None of this bs came out while he was there. They hate that he left them and are simply throwing shade.

That is my ONLY concern with BK, not leadership, process, strategy, discipline, or organization just recruiting. The irony of this all it’s the only trait mentioned above that O possess is recruiting.
