Texas is the better school academically, yes. Austin being the better city? That’s totally subjective. Not everyone wants to live in the California of the south.

Simmons loves Baton Rouge that was supposedly a big factor.

Kelly has said he will not get in bidding wars.

Let someone else deal with the freshman drama. Then recruit him as a sophomore or junior and get him for less money.

In todays world it’s smarter to recruit a proven transfer.

When he made that statement, that's exactly what I read into it. It was obvious, and also who wouldn't make the $$$ decision if the family needs it?

crime is not better than it is here

You can't really believe that can you?

Baton Rouge Crime Rate(per 1,000 residents) - Violent crime 11.93, Property crime - 43.99, Total Crime - 55.93

Austin Crime Rate(per 1,000 residents) - Violent crime 5.23, Property crime - 35.86, Total Crime - 41.09

That's a 128% higher violent crime rate, 23% higher Property Crime rate, and 36% higher total crime rate in Baton Rouge. I am not an Austin fan, I've never been there, but that is "not even close".

Austin is plenty safe. The supposedly compassionate libs ran out the folks living in east austin so they could build transcendental meditation centers and marxist co op coffee houses.

I'm from Houston and been to Austin enough to have an opinion on it.

Not everyone wants to necessarily live in a vibrant, artsy, busy city. Some people prefer a slower pace of life. If you took a random poll I would venture to guess most people would pick Austin over BR.

But that's not everyone's style. Which is why I said it's subjective.

You have to try though. If it was leverage I hope he got 1.5 million. That's 500K a year. Damn good $.
I'd rather spend it on home grown boys from the boot.

Although this is most likely talking about money, but it could also mean, being able to be close to home and take care of his family.

“Put me in the position to do that”

A few years ago it would have been “puts me in the position to do that.” It’s all about the bag now.

I hate NIL and transfers, but we have to view it both ways

We can't buy the 3 best transfers in baseball last year and also outbid other teams for football recruits, only to talk trash to another school for outbidding us.

It's the new normal and I hate it.

Money is a part of the game now. We aren't in a position to complain a whole lot when we do the same thing. We just got outbid in this instance

That's all fine and dandy, but be prepared to lose out on the elite recruits much more times than not.
