I agree with you.
The brother either deserves a spot or doesn’t.
When will the blackmail end?
Either my brother starts or I don’t play?
You earn your spot period. This kind of shortcut bullshite will not be good

Does anyone remember 3 star RB, #58 in the state overall rankings, Lanard Fournette.
Has actually contributed.

Robert Nkemdichi’s brother
Started for Ole Miss for multiple years.

Bryce Brown’s brother
5 star linebacker
quote:Different category. Only one of those worked out though (Cutcliffe and Eli).
Saban promising to hire Frank Wilson (but didn’t) to get the four O. P. Walker recruits. Gus Malzahn hired to get M. Mustain, D. Cutcliff hired to land Eli Manning.

no star Rick Clausen
He wasn't a no star. He was known. He also ended up starting for Tennessee.

Tenn signed CJ Leak
He also ended up starting somewhere (Wake I think)
Rodney Sopsher couldn't get on the field or stay in the classroom at two different JUCOs. He wasn't good enough in high school to even warrant having a recruiting profile made for him, and he played on a team with multiple recruitable athletes, so someone saw him play in high school. He's less than a warm body, he's actually a liability. Giving him a scholarship is a waste of an initial counter spot and allows a potentially negative situation to fester within the program.
The only upside is if Ishmael plays to his potential and is a model teammate. Both of those things are miles away from guarantees.

Is there absolutely no way for his brother to improve and turn into a serviceable role player?
I was thinking the same. I remember people saying Lanard's offer was just because of his brother however I saw enough in his film to see he could potentially be a contributor down the road.

Everyone thinks Bama/saban holds the cards if we get him or not. Well, we could actually hold the cards. We have offered the brother. So we either get him or force bama to pull a scholarship from a guy like young.
So, it could be a win/win for us. We are still recruiting young, Pickering, the kid committed to FSU, etc. So, we either get Ish, which is a Win, or force them to take the brother knocking out a player for them. If that result gets us a defensive end and another quality player, then that could result in a win as well.

Allowing a kid to dictate terms sets a bad precedent.

every year kids at the backend of the recruiting class amount to zero. I understand the chances are better if we sign a more talented player, but you're pretty much chalking up one of those nobodies with the brother before he plays a down. I am ok with that. People are getting too caught up in the moment

We definitely need to do it. This isn't just about the Sopsher brothers, it's about changing the whole perception of LSU in Amite and the surrounding areas.

If Saban can land Ish by getting Rodney into Bama for free, then it is Bama that holds the cards here. The fact is that they can take action to get the Sopshers while we cannot...we have to wait to see whether they take Rodney or not. This means that Saban will have to concede the nation's #1 DT, our of Amite, to LSU in order to us to land him.
I don't see Saban needing to pull a scholarship from a guy like Byron Young to get this accomplished...he has other options. He'll take and keep and all the best players whether he needs them or not.

LSU has done at last a dozen retarded things, all of which set God awful precedents, in just the last couple of years.
We've made mistakes, and we need to atone for them by ensuring that we're at least keeping up in the arms race.

Some of y’all are wayyyy overvaluing a single scholarship.
If Ish lives up to his potential he’s worth 3 or 4 scholarships.

If it got me the #1 OT, DT/DE, Buck and QB, I'd give up a solid 10 schollies.

Starting a bad trend. Wish he would go to Southern Miss orca school like that. Can’t hold a program hostage when your brother is not that good.

Our staff can't complain about anything in this situation, not that they are. We caved early on before the demands we're so public so we have to accept their choice like it or not.
As far as the way I read that whole interview, he's either trying to pressure Bama or he's looking for any reason not to go to LSU.
We've already offered Rodney and yet he's still seeking schools he's rarely, if ever visited to see if they will offer Rodney in case Bama doesn't. Whether that is in fact the case we may never know but it's how it comes across. He's been an LSU/Bama battle for 2 years and we have offered Rodney yet still no commitment. It seems pretty clear he doesn't want to be at LSU. Top ranked DT or not I'm not sure I want a kid that doesn't really want to be here and seems to be searching for anywhere else that will take them both. Not likely to end well. I understand our need for him but if he's gonna be a waste and we are gonna have another schollie tied up for 2 years with Rodney, I don't see it being worth the risk. He's giving all the signs of a bust.

And then you'd look like USC post Pete Carroll.

Out of the umpteen articles I've read on this kid, I've never once gotten the impression that his number 1 choice is LSU.
You can add this one to the list.

Honestly I take that "L" by offering rodney IF it does mean sophsher comes to LSU. 2 scholarships for the #1 DT in the country is worth more than Saban having him for 3-4 years, and taking the second best player in the state from us... We HAVE to keep saban out of our state...

I would rather have Pickering and Young.
Posted on 1/2/19 at 4:20 pm to ProjectP2294
And even if one of those examples was legit, I would still be against it if a player was offered a scholarship on the merit of another player.
I dont care who does it, when it was done, or how it works.
Giving a kid a scholly that is undeserving is a slap in the face to the preferred walk on that is working his arse off to help his team. It can not be good for the locker room and diminishes the life lessons that should be being taught.

As would I, but we likely won't be able to get either.
We may not be able to get the Sopshers either.

I saw Sopsher play against Country Day a small 2A high school with majority small white players that he outweighed considerably and he didn’t do anything. I was very unimpressed
