I don’t really remember what his reputation is. Anyone have any insight?

He was involved when he was LSU, but he was not credited with any big recruits while here. I checked on 247 last week. I was actually surprised at how little talent we signed on the defense during those years. If his defenses were top 10 back then, he should have no problem fielding them now.

I have zero recollection of his recruiting prowess, but several knowledgeable posters recently said that he's not really into the recruiting side of it as much as the X's and O's side.

We'll sure find out soon enough I suppose.

Let Coach O handle the recruiting.

Coach O will sell the scheme and the plan. Aranda wasn’t known as an ace recruiter either.

Coach O can also sell the fact that he will be at LSU their entire time there.

Pelini can sell how he’d use players.

Well he’s been a head coach for a decade since he left. He had to have improved his skills a little bit.

As long as we have Coach O and Raymond I’m not worried about defensive recruiting. Just need to hire a LB coach that can recruit.

Can’t be worse than Chavis. Good luck getting that a-hole to even pick up a phone. Besides, that’s what we are paying O $42 million for.

Take it for what it's worth, but we had some stud defensive commitments 2005-2007.. Al Woods, K Shepard, J Eugene, Jean Francois, Chad Jones, D Nevis etc.. and he was instrumental in getting P Peterson to LSU.
2005 was loaded already because of Muschamps recruiting haul. I think with the talent Aranda left him with a d what's coming hes going to put us back in the top 10 defense rankings again. The elite talent will continue to flow in...we'll be just fine!
I can promise you one thing..that sideline will be animated & fired up and we are going to be a mean and nasty defense again! I like this hire

that has to be what O is after. Aranda is great, but he isn't intense and doesn't produce mean defenses. That was the same problem with our oline under les the last few years. We need more meanness and toughness.

Bo will coach LB’s. He was an NFL LB coach.

Dare I say he got it done with ‘Saban’s players’??

I mean Aranda didn't really do much on the recruiting trail either, so at worst its a wash.

As a head coach for nearly 10 years, he understands the need for recruiting skills. Compared to Aranda, he’ll likely be better.

Doesn't need to be an a good recruiter. Just needs to help close the deal on recruits that's it. Should surround him with some good recruiting talent.

Rumors started that he hated recruiting and the other assistants did the leg work. He addressed them as untrue and said it’s part of the job. You might not love it but you can make your life a lot easier by pulling top talent. He gets it.

I hope you're right but I think those days might be gone with how the SEC Offensive Landscape has changed since he was DC here. I'm not saying he will do poorly. I think he will do well. I'm just not expecting back in the top 10 too quickly. I would guess top 20, and then hopefully top 10 in a couple years. If we can land Burch and/or Jackson (probably a pipe dream I know) he will have some extreme firepower on the line. Even if we miss out on both he will still be in great shape talent wise for the next few years.

Well if he can be top 20 that would be better than we were this year

I loved Aranda but seems like we got worse every year
