SFP. You can't be that stupid. Oh well. UT began recruiting both RS and Loston during their
SOPHOMORE years dunce. Surely you're the only one on the board that doesn't know that.
We must never tire in our efforts to enlighten,
encourage and edify the ignorant.

Josh Reed was recruited as a RB and wasn't Corey Webster?
we have a little more recruiting prowess these days too for obvious reasons
we can turn away kids like Christine Michael if we really believe they aren't a fit. we'll be fine at RB

exactly, that's my point, you get good athletes and move them to other positions if need be.

wrong about Loston ..and you forget that OU and USC also have great success recruiting the state of Texas

are you really taking what you read on orangebloods as fact? Do you really think UT had little interest in either guy?

This topic has gotten really heated, and I know the main issue is regarding the 'best class ever' but I want to get back to Slow Flo's initial comment re: the class closing as a dud. I agree with his opinion- This class started very high with some excellent prospects, which had the ranters on a big 'high', but since then, the class has slowed to a crawl. We were never going to get everyone, but in addition to losing Debose, Campbell, etc., suddenly we started taking in lesser known state prospects such as Johns, Claiborne, Barrow, etc., where we competed more with the 'state' schools as opposed to being national recruits. This is not a knock on these players who may turn out to be great players, but the expectations of the fans has been reduced, especially when teams like USC appear to be headed for a great finish by NSD with yes, a lot of those 5 star recruits, and the meltdown @ LSU if we lose out on RR.

Honestly, part of the perception that this class is ending with a thud instead of a bang is the fact that we got so many early commitments. Things have been sort of quiet and many people got a little too excited about some prospects that they should have been much, much more pessimistic about.

You guys are losing it. Until Pratt enrolls somewhere else, he is ours - same for Janzen. Just stop the rumor mill already with all the gloom and doom. Jeesh...

i do think they had interest in shep, just not as a QB. we do, so it worked out in our favor
now loston got more attention, but he got it really late, correct?

Loston never seemed very interested in UT
The shepp qb rumors have been cleared up by UT mods several times from what I've seen.
if you really think getting 2 big 5 star kids out of the state of texas was nothing special than you're trying too hard to argue here.

They were on Gilbert and wouldn't guarantee Shep a shot a QB, we did.

for the longest time, after he de-committed from Clemson all I heard was LSU and A&M.

no they were really good pulls and both will have big impacts on the games the next 4-5 years
but guys that don't have interest in UT or that UT isn't targeting, especially from SE TX, should be our's
where was OU with either of these guys?

SFP is in a mood today. I expect a 'what's the difference between the spread and the spread option' thread on the rant any second now.

sure, the tail end of this recruiting season has been a tad disappointing, but like someone said earlier, it's as so because of the fast and furious (insert joke here) start that we had.
Finish with Randle and Mingo, and you have a complete class. That's a strong finish IMO.

No offense, but you have the weak mind of a loser. We have not lost Debose or Pratt. You're the kind of guy that always quits before the game is even over.

after the risk they took on Chiles a couple of years back I can see why.. didn't work for them, but he is also no Shepp

Texas liked him, the feeling wasn't exactly mutual

So no one has brought up Les' mention of a frosh possibly getting immediate playing time?
Les doesn't usually make this kind of statement
quote:
“There isn’t any question. What we need are those receivers who have a big presence in the secondary, have the stature to compete for balls, big strong, tall, athletic men,” Miles said. “We really don’t have enough of those.

“A young receiver with strength and presence could play very quickly.”

Agreed, the dude thinks we shouldn't recruit any 5 stars players in Texas unless UT and OU are after them. Well, we were all after Mcfarland and now he's only a 4 star so that was prolly a waste also.
