I just looked at On3's average distance from school to recruit and there are some interesting results:

There are a lot of conclusions to draw from this, but LSU seems to be an outlier.

I know CBK is trying to lock down the state, but our out-of-state recruiting this cycle has left a lot to be desired.

An elite corner
A top ranked offensive tackle
A promising, extremely young QB
And in the thick of it for a high end RB and the top ranked defensive player nationally
I don’t know if you can do a whole lot better than that unless you’re the Georgia/Alabama brand

We have 3 elite talents, including the #1 edge, from the same Texas powerhouse attending this weekend

The evidence suggesting otherwise is in the op. None have more instate commits, all ranked ahead of us. They all have better oos classes than us. When even facts, fully available for all to see in this very thread, contradicts it, the sunshine just keeps on shining. There's really no reasoning with those that choose not to accept reason as an answer.

Norte dame has 9% in state. I guess he recruited a lot of out state talent there.

LSU fans...
Also LSU fans:
Why are we focusing on OOS guys so much?!!!
The foundation of every championship LSU team has been Louisiana players. It just so happens this class of Louisiana players is not as highly ranked as other classes have been. But it is also the case that Louisiana players generally tend to stay and perform at LSU...even in cases where they weren't all that highly ranked.
For comparisons sake, let's look at the 2020 LSU class. An LSU offer was maybe more in demand than ever before on the heels of the 2019 season. Yet, the Louisiana class that cycle wasn't as "strong" as others. Only 4 players in the top 100 (LSU signed 3 of them). Nonetheless, LSU had the No. 4 ranked class overall. Largely on the strength of OOC talent.
How did that OOC talent perform:
Airk Gilbert - Flashes of greatness....before virtually disappearing from LSU and college football.
Eli Ricks - decent 2 seasons, before taking the money and running to Alabama
BJ Ojulari - good career at LSU
Jordan Toles - A non factor currently playing at Morgan St.
Phillip Webb - Never made an impact
Antoine Sampah - Same
Marcus Dumervil- Same
Josh White - currently at Baylor.
Then you go to the 2021 class to find that 3 of the lowest ranked LA players (Savion Jones, Malik Nabers, Jack Bech) out produced multiple OOS guys.
Point being, if LSU is going to hedge their bets on guys history shows it's been much better to bet on LA players than OOS players.

Looking at the same data for past years, our best classes were also very "in-state" heavy, save for a a star DB from Florida or Texas (or QB transfer from Ohio...).
LSU is more geographically isolated from major competitors (UGA to Clemson is less than 90 miles and almost every team ahead of LSU has a major competitor in-state or nearby), with Texas A&M being closest to LSU.
It's an advantage to have a stocked backyard with congruent cultures and a shared desire to be there, but it helps to pull stars from out of state as well (Harold Perkins, Patrick Peterson and Dashawn Womack this year). A decent amount of our highest ranked out-of-state recruits have not worked out:
HIGHEST RANKED LSU RECRUITS
I think it's a no-brainer to lock up LA and pluck from out-of-state as you can, which is what the staff is trying to do. Even Alabama cannot survive on Alabama state recruits alone, since they are fending off Auburn (UGA is only 250 miles away).
I have to wonder how this compares to pre-NIL/transfer portal changes though.

Please enlighten us as to what optimistic BS you concluded from the OP? You literally can't say one critical thing on this board without being attacked by the mouth breathing sunshine pumpers.

Because they are hypocritical bastards.

Just glancing at the ratings, we have more players rated 90 or below than in quite some time.
But they are all in state so I guess it doesn't matter. Right.
Or better yet, they're all diamonds in the rough, will be the nauseating reply.

You know how dumb you are? Our rate was 40% in state last year and MANY of us considered that class out of state heavy. If you look at these lists, 40% ITSELF, is already on the higher end of guys getting in state recruits. On composite rankings, we only got 4 of the 10 recruits from Louisiana last year, yet still finished at 40% Louisians recruits in state. People were actually mad that we didn't go heavier in Louisiana last year. We finished with a top 6 class with 7 of the top 10 recruits coming out of state. Question, what if LSU nabbed the remaining top 6 and swapped out of state recruits at the same position? How high do you think that Louisiana percentage would have been? We would have likely had a top 3 class, but I'm not going through all that data.
We need to keep the connections and pipelines of Louisiana secure. Last year was an extreme no go for Louisiana recruiting, but we had to do it because of the changing of the guard. Every single LSU national championship was Louisiana strong. We need to build depth, and the best way is to build them with Louisiana athletes for 2 reasons. One reason is retention is higher. Usually kids that leave a program after a year or so, go back home. The other reason is that Louisiana athletes are just superior. Katrina among other things, displaced many of our athletes across the country. You will be surprised how many kids are originally from Louisiana, that are elite in some other state, or in the pros now.
Like I've said many times, many of the discrepancies in our kids rankings have occurred because they've barely been seen.

I know we're all supposed to be friends here but I kinda wish some of you would get locked in the 360cam with BK.

Would love to see that average go up since Duncanville is over 400 miles away...

3. LSU - 44% in state, 360.7 miles (7th ranked class 66%, 189 miles in 2024)

I wish there was a BIG FLASHING warning on threads that pop up a year later.

Not at all a true statement. See the post below yours as to why it is.
